So, What do you really want on Mother's Day??? Also, how many of you have to pick out your own Mother's Day gift and choose what to do????? It bugs me that my husband never surprises me...

I would like for my husband
I would like for my husband to put my kitchen sink back into working order so I can cook more without having to wash the dishes in a bucket.......sigh....home improvement snafu....it's a long story. LOL
I am pretty low maintenance when it comes to gifts. I love getting gift cards or plain old cash to spend......my husband knows that by now. I would really like to go and get a pedicure becuase I am about due for one, and have a gift card to Banana Republic, I like a lot of the clothes they have now.......and then go out to a nice lunch. I love anything my son does for me, I really treasure his handmade gifts.
You will find this funny....one year my husband sent me out to pick up some flowers to take to his mom on mother's day....and he said "you can pick some up for yourself if you want".......lol....I don't think he understood how picking out your own flowers just isn't the same!
Katy, glad to see a post

Thanks....I'm like the wind,
Thanks....I'm like the wind, I blow in and out when the mood strikes............lol
Actually, a combination of things have kept me away. My sister and nephew visited for about a week...........so there was a lot to do to prepare, and then I was busy with them.....also, there is some advertiser recently added to this site that the internet filter my employer uses does not like at all.....so i cannot visit using my laptop. I am a programmer/project mgr so my days are pretty long sometimes, hours of coding, etc...I don't take "smoke breaks" or go out to lunch often, I normally eat at my desk, so that's when I used to surf the web a bit(only the most benign of sites, of course)........but no more of that!
Besides that, my husband has been studying for finals and monopolizing our personal laptop......so the only computer is in my son's room and he's normally doing his homework. I think we may buy a Mac soon.
Regarding the pedi's........I get them all the time.........I have been visiting the same 2 nail salons for years and years and I have never had a problem...I got to Tiffany Nails at 29th/Dunlap for my fills & tips (kevin does my nails, he's the best..he can do a fill in 30 mins)and an occasional lunchtime pedicure......my boss and I go together now and then.......and other times I go to Paulene's nails in Gilbert. I used to go to the Paulene's in N. Scottsdale when I worked up there years ago and I liked it. I have never had any kind of infection, wart, or anything of a remotely funky nature happen.
I've done the same thing for
I've done the same thing for the last several years and I'm never going back to the typical host a brunch at my house for all the moms in the family!
I leave the house at 8 a.m. and don't come home until around dinner time - I get a pedicure, go see a movie or two, have breakfast or lunch by myself (w/a good book or the newspaper) and just generally turn my mommy brain off.
My husband does the same thing for Father's Day. (minus the pedicure!)

What great ideas -- I'm going to lobby for this in my house!
In the past I have gone with
In the past I have gone with a bunch of girlfriends to a spa. I just don't feel like it this year. Maybe it is the girlfriends - I don't know. I have told my husband about a couple of places that would be good for brunch, but I know he doesn't get it.
I suppose I could go to a movie with a friend. I like the idea of hanging out all day away from my house. Recharge my battery.
I am still thinking, but I understand what you are saying. It would be amazing if my husband surprised me - at least once - for Mother's Day.
I wish the movie, "Sex in the City" was out this weekend. That would be fun to go with a bunch of girlfriends. It comes out May 30th though.
I will keep checking back to see if anyone's ideas sound fun. So far I have a couple of ideas - Thanks!

Mothers Day, my birthday,
Mothers Day, my birthday, and wedding anniversary all come within 3 weeks of each other. I don't expect grandios things for all three, but I told my kids tonight while we were at Baskin Robbins that they better make sure their dad buys me an ice cream cake since I didn't get one for the birthday!
sure, fine, whatever
My best (especially since I
My best (especially since I was the SM), was when I was living with my ex and SD. We got invited out on Saturday night by friends who just seemed bent on keeping the evening going.
When we got home -- late, the house was cleaned stem to stern (and I mean the inside of the fridge, the microwave, the oven -- everything), all the dishes and laundry done and put away, our bed linens had been washed and the bed remade, freshly laundered towels were hung up in the master bathroom, and, on the kitchen table there was a bag of freshly roasted coffee grounds, an assortment of breakfast pastries, a Sunday paper, and a TV Guide. Our alarm clock was AWOL.
When I (finally) got up on Sunday morning, I couldn't have felt more pampered than had I been at a fancy resort.
I appreciate nice gifts, but, really, if I wanted a bottle of fragrance or a pair of earrings, I could juggle my budget and buy them for myself. Except for whatever favors my SD called in to get what had to have been an army of teenagers to achieve a spring cleaning in a few short hours, she only had to spend $8 - $10.
When she was good, she was very, very good.

Homemade cards from my kids...even though they are teens;
Homemade music cds from my boys. Their music is different from my generation but I do like the majority of theirs!
I just like to keep it simple. Nothing elaborate.

I am another one with b-day,
I am another one with b-day, Mother's Day, and anniversary in May, but mine are all in the same week. I just found out our anniversary will be spent at a Karate graduation. That will be a new way to celebrate.
I love the simple things also for gifts. Homemade and from the heart. The only thing I really want is dinner out and with the whole family.

Usually my husband picks out
Usually my husband picks out the gift from himself and my son, but if there is something like brunch I have to plan it myself or I would end up cooking breakfast for everyone and being the last one to eat(cold by the time I get there). I like to spend the time with my family in the morning, but then I like to go somewhere with my mom and enjoy some down time with lunch and a movie. This year I asked for a external hard drive to store my photos, not very romantic, but is important to me. Hopefully he listened!
