What do you like to watch?

destryTV's picture

What do you like to watch on TV? We're always looking for new topics to cover. I host Arizona Midday on Channel 12. We want to cover topics that are interesting to moms across the Valley. I'm a mom myself, so I try to think of things I care about. What about you? Let me know things you would like to see and hear about. I also try to post contests and topics to give you guys a scoop too!

Friday we're giving away tickets to the Wildlife World Zoo. Yes, you can go in the summer. I get there when they open at 9am and I am out by 10:30!

Thanks for your time,
Destry!

I watch TV shows as an

ArizonaMoms's picture

I watch TV shows as an escape, and often I find that I watch on DVD or TiVo....that's unless I'm watching iCarly or Hannah Montana or Sponge Bob because the kids have that on.

Arizona Moms Editor Yvette Armendariz shares stories about raising her kids and tips for busy parents in her Time-starved (goddess) Mom blog. She and her husband are raising two children, ages 8 and 11.

My kids are just getting to

MiriamVS's picture

My kids are just getting to the age where they can watch SOME of what I like (shows like CSI, Law & Order, Criminal Minds --- which by the way is set in my hometown!) but I still have to be careful. Usually I'll only let them watch episodes I've already seen and have certified "not too violent or raunchy."

My kids actually learned A LOT about STD's after watching an episode of CSI in which 'crabs' were shown under a microscope. And believe me, that is NOT a pretty sight! Any way, my 14 year old had heard about STD's plenty of times but SEEING the ugly reality prompted him to ask lots of questions.

Not saying that would be a good segment for your TV show, but it was a 'teaching opportunity' for us!

My husband and I are Netflix

susan_hampton's picture

My husband and I are Netflix addicts. We rarely get to follow anything on TV, so we get to series after everyone else. We used to follow CSI but got off track this past season so we need to catch up (we miss Sara!) and now we are working our way through season 5 of the Sopranos. (Don't tell me how it ends!!!) We really love shows with strong characters, great storylines, and love the science and logic aspects of CSI.

We used to be hooked on Friends, and we haven't found a sitcom that we like nearly as much since that one went off. We are getting into "The Office" lately, though.

I was late to jump on the

I was late to jump on the Lost bandwagon, but once I did I was hooked. I watched all the previous episodes prior to this seasons premier - and I did it over the internet watching about three a day. I was consumed (which is bad, I know).

Now that everything is in reruns, I love watching the presidential political wrangling on CNN and MSNBC.

sure, fine, whatever

Reality TV ... I love reality shows.

There is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one!

I have pretty much become a

Kinder-Mommy's picture

I have pretty much become a reality TV junkie. I don't watch any dramas or sitcoms anymore. I don't konw why that is. Maybe you can do a topic on that! I guess I got frustrated with Lost when I just wanted to know the answers to everything and all that I was getting was more questions.
I mostly like competition reality shows... So You Think You Can Dance is my ultimate favorite - just because I wish I could dance like that. My Britney Spears imitation in college is about as close as I ever got - although it was a real crowd pleaser at parties! Top Chef, Project Runway, The Real World, and American Gladiators are some more of my guilty pleasures!

Kinder-Mommy is a kindergarten teacher and a mother of 2!

I too am a reality tv

Rybearsmom's picture

I too am a reality tv junkie. And sadly, most of them are on MTV. I love the Real World. I love the Hills and sometimes they do marathons of America's Next Top Model. I have no idea why I'm so hooked on that show, but for some reason I am. I can't wait for 24 to come back on and I am a huge fan of Prison Break (Wentworth Miller who plays Scofield is soooooooo hot!!!!!!!)

I don't usually get to watch any of these shows anymore as I have a 10 month old little guy and another on the way. My nighttime TV shows have been replaced with Dish Network's "Baby First" channel. My son stops what he is doing to hear the songs. Maybe you can check that out and do a story on that channel. I love it as does my son.

Ps.....I am sure I will be trading the TV shows for sleep when the new baby comes! LOL.

There is one show I cannot

azmommyof4's picture

There is one show I cannot miss GREY's. My other half's is House. I also like wedding shows and food tv.
Then I will admit I like reality shows. Keeping up with the Kardashians, Kimora Lee Simmons and My super sweet 16. I know ridiculous.

I know what you mean about

braybee's picture

I know what you mean about the MTV shows!! My husband gets soooo annoyed with me...too bad....I don't say anything about his fantasy baseball!! ha!

The Hills is a GREAT one! I love to HATE Spiedi. He is awful!

...and by the way, my friend insisted I get a DVR when my son was first born. It was wonderful to ALWAYS have something to watch during those 3am feedings. You have a little time but seriously, if you don't have one...get one! It makes being awake in the middle of the night so much more tolerable.

I think Spiedi is awful too.

Rybearsmom's picture

I think Spiedi is awful too. I can never follow whether they're together and making everyone sick with their goo goo eyes at each other or if their seperated and stalking each other at the clubs. It's different every episode. Sheesh!

I love Deadliest Catch. Mike

Rybearsmom's picture

I love Deadliest Catch. Mike Rowe is AWESOME! He also does the show Dirtiest Jobs. My son was mesmerized by that show when he was first born. I think there was a comfort in Mike Rowe's voice that was familiar to him since I watched a lot of the Dirty Jobs shows while I was on bedrest and pregnant with him. I know, funny huh?

OMG....I love Dr G! That

Katy1999's picture

OMG....I love Dr G! That show is awesome.
I also love The First 48.....I love any shows with Forensic Science......and not the hollywood version shown on CSI.
I like this show on HGTV called House Hunters, because I like to see what real estate in different parts of the country is like. My son and I like watching Unwrapped on the Food network because he gets to see how things are made......and we also love the cake making shows...he's really interested in how those cakes are built.
I don't watch much network tv anymore.......the only weekly dramas I like are Army Wives, Mad Men, and re-runs of the Sopranos on AE. I usually record them on the DVR and then never get around to watching them, though. I am usually too busy to watch much tv...most of my viewing is done when everyone else is asleep and I have insomnia. We loved this show called Jericho that was on CBS, but it got cancelled. It stinks that a good show like that is off the air, but there is so much drivel that people watch ......my husband and I like to make fun of the show "So you think you can dance" by calling it "So, you think this is actually a show?"............lol
I saw the stupidest show when I was flipping through channels last night....Bridezillas......I was so embarassed for those women! Where do they find these people?

On the network channels the

bookworm_mom's picture

On the network channels the only thing I really watch is 2 1/2 Men. Since the writers strike and the ending of so many long running shows there's really nothing I like anymore. I always reruns of Will and Grace, Still Standing, Friends, Frazier.
A really funny show is "It’s always sunny in Philadelphia". They are just crazy funny.
And finally my reality shows.... I don't watch So You Think You Can Dance, The Bachelor, or anything with good competition. I watch and the lowest of the low: Rock of Love, Flavor of Love, and I have finally fallen so low that I watch Groomer has it and Sheer Genius.
That's right I am not afraid to say I watch about dog groomers and hair cutters!!! Same characters they’re just cutten’ different things! Now if you'll excuse me I have to go take a zanex, hide in my room under the covers and watch my shows with ear phones on!

health topics (new research)...how to talk to kids about tough stuff (meaning of life, drugs, etc.)...Valley events...money saving tips...Post Partum Depression/OCD...software to manage life more easily...medical leave laws...health care insurance...

Basically, anything with some science behind it.

Scottsdale community college is offering a class in "Advanced Psychic Abilitites"...I heard that on the radio. I can only assume that it's one of those non-credit classes that anyone can sign up to teach, but it is associated with "college" and I wanted to cry, hearing that.

Always imagine that arrogant, condescending men are watching and think about what you are projecting as a woman and what it says about the women viewers...always be cognizant of reminding them that we are as smart, capable and serious as they are....please no stories on "auras"...

Our family likes to watch Cosby reruns. They are always tacking an issue and no character takes themselves too seriously.

Ms.M's picture

I used to watch several 'series' shows before children...let's go waaaaayback ....Hill Street Blues, Thirty Something - oh that is so far back. Anyway, after many years of not having time to watch tv, I just found a new series I love on USA, Sundays at 10:00...'In Plain Sight'. It's about two U.S.Marshalls, a guy and a girl, who put people in the witness protection program. It's great acting, funny, interesing, and usually some good action.
I can't stay up that late to watch it, but we tape it.
Other than that, I catch minutes here and there of the news, usually on CNN, and Nancy Grace or Larry King.
