PHX Zoo Vs Wildlife Zoo

divaballerina's picture

Is the wildlife zoo out in the west valley better than the PHX zoo? My 22 month old is REALLY starting to enjoy animals and making sounds that animals make. You can imagine how many times we sing old mcdonld had a farm right now. Anyway, I wanted to take her back to the zoo but I wanted to see if the wildlife zoo out here where I live is better than drving all the way to the PHX zoo. Last time I was at the PHX zoo I was 8 months pg and I rememeber it was way too much walking around in 110 degree heat in June. Plus my daughter was to young to really get it.

I would think either zoo

I would think either zoo would be enjoyed by your child. The Wildlife zoo has a train ride, playground, and a merry go round also. I think you get closer to the animals too.

There, the animals are just in cages. At the Phoenix zoo the animals are in areas that look a lot like their natural habitat...so you have to really search for a few of them.

Mom of sons M (18), J (14), and daughter S (11) ... I love them all but heaven help me, some days I want to run away :)

Our family has been to both

Our family has been to both and I would go with the Wildlife Zoo in the west valley any day. Feeding the giraffes was one of my sons favorite. A train ride takes you behind the fence and you get to see some animals up close and personal. The Phoenix Zoo reminded me of Jurassic Park when they were taking the ride in the jeeps to see the animals and they didn't see any.

HAHAHA...That's totally true

HAHAHA...That's totally true about the Phoenix Zoo. I love taking our kids to the wildlife one! There is so much more to do there and to offer! For younger kids especially I think it's better!

It's true that you can get

It's true that you can get closer to the animals at the Wildlife World Zoo. In fact, you can get so close that it seems a bit weird, what with having visited plenty of zoos where visitors are cautioned not to touch the animals and certainly not to feed them.
At Wildlife World Zoo, I've seen people tossing Cheetos to animals so they can eat them. That said, it's cool to feed a giraffe for yourself and have a bird sit on your arm and eat from your hand. But remember they are still animals, and we saw a kid get nipped by a giraffe there. Screamed his head off, so I assume it really hurt.
Still, I'm a bigger fan of The Phoenix Zoo, where the animals are kept in something more resembling their natural habitat. Yes, you may have to squint to see the jaguar in the back of its enclosure, but I'm not sure I'd like to see one close up, either, what with what happened recently with the lion attack at the other zoo.

She's 22mo old. Go to the

I whole heartedly recommend

I whole heartedly recommend the Wildlife World Zoo. At 22 months your daughter will get to see the animals. At Phoenix Zoo, you can't see anything. At the WWZ you can actually see and interact with the animals. One of the posters mentioned seeing a kid get nipped by a giraffe, yes that can happen, but it is the responsibility of the parents to make sure that doesn't happen. They are animals and they are just as curious about us as we are of them. At this zoo you will be able to talk to your daughter about the animals, explain things, and being able to be so close, even at 22 months she will fall in love with them. Your whole family will have a great time.
