Duran Duran is coming to town. The first and last time I saw them in concert, I was just out of college. And I became a big fan of the Cranberries, which opened the show.
I've asked a few of my girlfriends to go with me to their show May 6 at the Dodge Theatre - none have been takers. But the ones I asked are a little older than me, so they weren't as into them and aren't willing to fork over $70 a ticket.
I know if my friend Lorene in Chicago were here, she'd come along. We bonded over Duran Duran when we met in Kansas City during our summer internship.
Duran Duran - along with Madonna, Pat Benatar, U2, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and others - reminds me of my happy carefree days. I remember getting several of Duran Duran's vinyl records in junior high. I sooooo wanted to marry Simon, not John like many of my friends. Ask my mom and dad, I drove the family crazy playing "Hungry Like the Wolf" and other songs. And I remember trying to record their videos off of MTV so I could watch them over and over. Reflecting on it, I was a bit insane.
I don't know what band my kids will remember when they grow up. Alex likes a ton of Radio Disney-approved artists. Julia, meanwhile, LOVES Miley Cyrus and Aly & AJ, but she also loves Pat Benatar thanks to mom's karaoke habit. I loved Olivia Newton-John when I was about 7 and "Grease" was big, and still loved her when "Xanadu" came out. Oh, the days!

U2....Rattle and Hum concert
U2....Rattle and Hum concert back in 1989 when they were here in Tempe. The stadium was unbelievably packed!
We saw them in Glendale last time and that was the best concert I have ever seen and at the same time, I was shocked they sang my favorite song 'Bad'....
My girls are going with us when they come back :)
Another fond memories - Del Montes before they became the Gin Blossoms and this was before Doug's suicide (sadly).

Ah, I was over the moon for
Ah, I was over the moon for General Public. Duran Duran was a great one, too, but even so, I wouldn't fork over $70! I'm just not into the concert scene at my age.

I am a huge Duranie! I saw
I am a huge Duranie! I saw them in Tucson 4 or 5 years ago when all 5 were back together. Great small venue, it was awesome. Then again 2 years later in Vegas. Now the orig 5some is down to a 4some (Andy left) and I am seeing them again in May at Dodge. I will be 8 months pregnant then too.
I also love the Cranberries. Dolories O'Riordan wound up marrying the tour manager for Duran Duran on that tour.
