My friend is coming into town that I haven't seen in years and we're planning a girls night out. Since my going out days are all but gone and I haven't been in a club or the nightlife scene in years I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions of any place to go for a good night out that isn't full of the young meat market type people flaunting their stuff and wearing little to nothing. We'd like something that's nice, but not full of people looking to go home with people, if you know what I mean. Ideally we'd like either Scottsdale, Phoenix, NW Phoenix, etc. just not really anything on the east side since we won't be on that side of town.
Thanks!!!

I too have hung up my going
I too have hung up my going out days long ago but I always hear that Barcelona's is a nice place. I use to go to Devil's Martini once in a while, and that was pretty nice (that was like a year ago).

If you are in Scottsdale a nice place to go for dinner and cocktails is Trader Vics (Valley Ho). The hotel has a flavor of being in Palm Springs while the restaurant feels modern and a bit of flair to polynesian side as well. It's within walking distance (or a quick cab drive) to many other places downtown to Scottsdale. I don't know of after hour places...but find catching up in a nice place like this...to be fun.

Ok, if you want chic and not
Ok, if you want chic and not a cheese fest then go to skybar & red bar at the Mondrian hotel in Scottsdale! really great atmosphere and great crowd! You will love it!!!! It has different areas and the hotel is tres chic when you first walk in with everything floor to ceiling white. Red bar has a great outdoor fireplace area and the restaurant is great! The crowd is not full of singles at all and it's a very mature place that is new and upcoming to go. You will look great taking your friend there. I think they have a web site so you can see pictures. Have fun!!! The BEST thing is that it's not club~by or bar~ish in anyway. It's grown ups in a great environment hanging out enjoying being out! We never get out either so when we met some friends there I really enjoyed it & so did my husband.

Not sure if either of these
Not sure if either of these places are your cup of tea.My husband has played in a band at both of these places and I usually get to either one once or twice a year with my girlfriends.I don't get out much either. They both have live bands that play blues or Jazz and ages range from 30's-60's. And a dance floor.
Rhythm Room -10th street and Ind. school or Chars 7th ave and Bethany home.
And don't fool yourself no matter how high end or low end you go to...someones always looking to find someone...Ha...ha
The main thing is go out and have fun!
I haven't been to Mondrian
I haven't been to Mondrian (it used to be the James Hotel, right?) Thanks for the tip--I'd like to try it.

AZ 88 is always fun--there
AZ 88 is always fun--there are some young 'uns there, but mixed in with more mature types with more clothing. Sapporo is always good for a chuckle--very busy and fun, but lots of scantily-clad women and the old guys who'd be willing to pay for more of their plastic surgery. Meow! Any of the bar/restaurants at Kierland are pretty fun, with young and mature crowds. I always like to take friends to the Phoenician for a glass of champagne on the terrace, but that's definitely an older crowd (like me, ugh).
lol.. meow was funny!!!!

Postinos is a great place!
Postinos is a great place! It's a wine bar in the old Arcadia post office. The best part of the place is its bruschetta! You can get all they offer and share/try each. They're very good! There's also Le Grande Orange market you can shop around in. There's a gelato place next door and another restaurant across the street, owned by the same people that is mellow/hip wine place. There's just no dancing there...
There's the Scottsdale waterfront that has some really excellant restaurants and nightlife. Why not check into that?
Olive and Ivy...good but rather expensive.
My vote is Postinos...always!
I'd forgotten about Postino
I'd forgotten about Postino and Le Grande Orange--those places are wonderful!
