What do you think of this story where the Gotbaum family is suing the City of Phoenix for 8 million dollars?

I of course do not know all the detials of the case. However, having read what I have read, I do feel bad for the family loss and for the personal struggles the mom was going through but I just feel that they should not be suing the city in this case. Everything the city has put out at this point makes sense to me. How where they to know she was so ill unstable or suicidal etc. I agree that if she was so ill, she shouldn't of been flying alone. I guess the family now put out some of the mom's journal entries and honestly I do not think it helps their case instead I lean even further to the cities side. Of course the courts will eventually decide, but just wondering what people in general think about this. To me it seems pretty cut and dry.

To me, this case just
To me, this case just doesn't make sense. It is so tragic, but I don't honestly understand all of it. Why was the woman--obviously very sick- traveling alone? If she was frantic enough to allegedly accidentally strangle herself, why wasn't someone watching her in the holding cell? As you say, the courts will eventually decide; I just hope the entire truth is revealed to the jury so that they can make the best informed decision.

As terrible and hearbreaking
As terrible and hearbreaking as this story is, money isn't going to change anything. If anything, drawing it out makes it harder to get on with the grieving process.
i myself don't know all the
i myself don't know all the details either - there just seems to be so much question as to how all this played out. i feel so terrible for the family - tragic loss. however i recall the first time i heard it on t.v. my first thought was similar to many others 'how could her family let her travel alone in that state? an escort (family or hired) could have calmed the situation and it probably would have played out differently.' it just sounds like the family is well known in NY (and have $$) its not like they could not afford to pay for an extra plane ticket to escort the lady. again....so tragic!

i think it's such a sad
i think it's such a sad story. But honestly, i am not sure why such a fragile individual was making the trip alone.
In my opinion, the family should not be awarded any money.

I read both letters and I
I read both letters and I think the family is trying to make a point that the way she was handled by the police was inappropriate which I agree with. The question I have is this - why didn't the Police call in the Crisis team, like Terros, and have them come with them while attending the woman??? I just feel that there should be some kind of psychological evaluation right there instead of being too rash and arrested her and so on which made the whole situation even worse...
And secondly, the woman requested to travel alone and she had every rights to do so whether we like it or not.
