Is this discrimination or a man scorn

phoenixgrlkim1's picture

So I don't know how many people have heard about this but I heard this am about a guy named Steve Horner going around Colorado and suing bars and the Colorado Rockies for have "ladies night" and only offering drink specials for women (suing basically for discrimination against gender). Here's the story: http://www.freedomszone.com/aggregator.php?id=38257

A part of me thinks this is completely ridiculous, but a part of me does see his point. Back when the law was designed (equal rights for race, religion, age and gender) it was designed to help woman and people of colored race for equal rights but by having a "ladies night" or lower prices for women are we really discriminating? Some people think this guy is just scorn or a complete baby about it. He says he not in it for the money, but to change it so there is equal rights again. I don't know if I necessarilly believe that. I don't see him going after "male only" golf clubs and organizations or asking for a "male night" at these places he's suing.

"It's not to late to become who you've always wanted to be..."

I think it is ridiculous.

I think it is ridiculous. Most of those types of bars have men's night, etc. Men don't have to go to the bar. They are free to go somewhere else. I think the guy is just drumming up some free publicity for himself by filing these ridiculous lawsuits that cost society money. He needs to get a real job.

Ridiculous is the right word

Ridiculous is the right word for it. Ladies nights are designed to attract the ladies to the bar, thereby attracting more men to the bar, presumably looking for ladies. If you're into meat markets, or if you're the bar owner, it's a win-win-win. Too bad he doesn't channel his money and energy into one of the hundreds of more worthwhile causes.

I would think that every night at a bar is "men's night". This guy is missing the point. I am not positive about this, but I think Ladies Night was started as a way to get the women into the bar so that the men, who were gonna be there anyway, had something pretty to look at. :o)

sure, fine, whatever

I did not read the article

I did not read the article but I think this country is too sue happy personally. The frivolous lawsuits, such as this one, shines a negative light on things that should be sued over. Anti-trust violation, actual descrimination suits, etc.

If a club owner chooses to have ladies night, isn't that his/her right? I do not attend bars or club anymore but I thought ladies nigt was no exclusively for ladies but consisted of a lower cover charge and a special on alcholic beverages.

Honestly, I have better things to do with my time than to lend attention to foolishness such as this. I do not care if men go to clubs and smoke cigars and play golf. Let them have their "man moment." Everyone needs a relaxing outlet. Plus, ladies night generally is on an off night for the club which attracts more business. This lawsuit is just nonsense and a misinterrpretation of the original meaning of the law being cited in my opinion.

Ridiculous! If he was really

Ridiculous! If he was really worried about discrimination then he would be suing the bars not just for ladies night but any night a bar has a special targeted towards a group, such as food industry nights. Or he would gripe about why they only offer specials during particular Sports events that are always male teams. Why aren't they giving equal time to women's teams and their fans? It's just silly.
