We've taken the kids the last 2 summers for a day to Knott's Berry Farm and are huge fans. Surpringly, upon our return, when we were raving about the park...none of my friends have ever taken their kids there.
It is 5 minutes from Disneyland - so you can easily do a day there instead of yet another very expensive day at Disney. Admission is about $14/kids and about $26/adults - with the coupons that are always out there, even in the Sunday ads. (isn't it $50/kids and $60/adults at Disney?)
Camp Snoopy is an entire section of the park with "little kid" rides - so we spend a lot of time there. The log flume ride is the original - that Disney copied! And the real train ride is a fave, as is the "other train" ride, in ore cars, through the mine.
Then, the Charles Schultz arena puts on (indoor, airconditioned) shows - like a full-on ice show, for free, included in your admission, during a variety of times through-out the day.
My parents took me there in the 1970's - and much of what I remember as a kid is still there, and now, much more.
Best part - everyone else goes to Disneyland........the worst lines at KBF are like the best ones at Disney!! Whoo hoo - you can actually do more than 1 ride per hour! :)
Personally, nothing beats Disney in my book - but this is a nice alternative for a day, and about 400% cheaper!!!
Am I the only one who has been there and likes it?

I went to Knotts Berry Farm
I went to Knotts Berry Farm in high school and loved it! I'm currently planning a trip there for Spring Break w/ my kids! I can't wait!

Wow, I will admit I had not
Wow, I will admit I had not even thought about this. I bet my kids would love it there. We just went to Disneyland and we love it, but you are right about the cost. My husband and I were shocked - it costs $91 for a one day park hopper pass at Disney. (park hopper means you can go to Disneyland and California Adventures).
We bought deluxe passports for this past year at Disneyland and they expire in March. The cost was $259 per person for a year. The deluxe means there are black out dates you can not go (well not exactly true, you can pay $30 to go on a black out date). Unless you pay for the most expensive passport, the deluxe is about all you can do. They have one called Southern California select, but you have to reside in California to be able to buy this one. It has lots more black out dates too.
Knots Berry Farm will go on our list of things to do. Thanks!!

My husband and I went before
My husband and I went before we had kids and enjoyed it. We're going to be in Irvine in April over our son's 2nd birthday and had considered it, but decided on Legoland in Carlsbad instead. We figured we'd wait until the kids were older before taking them to Knotts.
It is better to be hated for what you are, than to be loved for what you are not.
It's been a while since we
It's been a while since we went, but the kids loved Camp Snoopy. We wanted to ride the bigger coasters, but at the time the kids were too small and I won't go by myself. YIKES! (I love going, but I need a friend for support.)
A friend of mine went last year for fall break and loved it...got a great deal (hotel and tickets) and said the lines weren't bad either.
I know we'll go back soon. Maybe for fall break. :)
Thanks for the reminder.

Growing up in southern
Growing up in southern california and about 20 minutes from Knotts and Disneyland i have learned to appreciate both.If you plan a trip to Knotts, check there website. At xmas you get in for free with a $10 toy on selected weekends. I once found a deal online, bring a can a food and with 1 paid admission you got one free. Lets just say we went more than day on that deal. In the summer you also have a water park located in the same parking area. The food is great and cheaper than disneyland. You gotta have the fried chicken because it is the best and the reason the rides were there in the first place.A family meal with sides and biscuits and Knotts famous jelly with cost about $30, and that has fed a hungry family of 5 and we had leftovers. For extra fun there is a pirate show located on the same street,,with a diner and show. This is not affliated with knotts but has only been there a year a two.Boys love it.HAVE FUN!
Is it over yet!!!
I went there as a child and
I went there as a child and LOVED IT! I still can place myself there...my mom can't beleive it....so we are planning a trip for the summer.
Oh we love Knotts! I grew
Oh we love Knotts! I grew up in Buena Park and went to school right next door and it was definitly a big part of my childhood. Yes, it is so much cheaper. If you go in the summer, there are discounts after 4 or 5pm as well. You can always find some sort of discounts through the Grocery Stores as well in CA.

Oh I did foget to mention.
Oh I did foget to mention. You might want to try to go during the weekday. There tends to be a younger, teenage rowdy crowd on the weekends and in the summer evenings. Not too many, but enough to where it would get annoying. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the locals being able to get in for free through their friends that work there, plus it's cheaper in the evenings.
Just to be forwarned.

I just went to Disneyland
I just went to Disneyland for the first time last year. Wow was that pricey. We loved it and so did the kids. However, in January we happened to drive past Knotts and neither of us have ever been there. We saw some of the rides and immediately my husband and I were all about a trip this summer. The kids don't know but we're sure excited!

I was their with my family
I was their with my family when I was kid about 8 or 9 and we had great fun. We have now taken our kids to Disneyland and California Adventure every year since they were little about 3 and 1 and now they are 6 and 4. I think it is time to go visit Knotts, of course I'm pregnant so not sure if we'll do it before or after the baby.
Wow - I've never been to
Wow - I've never been to Knotts Berry Farm. What a great idea. We plan to spend a week in Newport Beach this summer - that might be a nice day trip to KBF. Thanks for the idea!
