in-state vacation

mom24boyz's picture

So we decided to do a weekend in-state vacation at the pointe rather than trveling out of state. We were really excited about seeing the lazy river and the casita we booked. Welll - we were sadly disappointed with our stay. Don't get me wrong the casita, once we got into 1, was nice but not as nice as the internet showed.
Okay, I did type out the story but it was way TOO long! So long story sort of short.
1 - Our key wouldn't work on the front door so we had to go thru the back/garge door. This is after the keys to our first casita would not work. We were too hot and tired to deal with it.
2 - a couple dumped over my bag from the lounge cair to the ground and left it dumped over when they took the umbrella that was covering our unattended chairs....which btw, guests aren't to move umbrellas and cabana boys are not to move umbrellas from an area that there are personal things at.
3 - The lazy river and pool area was over crowded with non tube kids swimming under everyone and bumping and splashing everyone on purpose. We found out later from another annoyed paying overnighter guests that the pointe lets non-staying people pay 10.00/person/day to use the "lazy river" area.

Anywho, in the future we will not going to the pointe.

That just stinks -

That just stinks - especially the overcrowded pool area. i think a lot of places let people in for a day fee during the summer and it's not really fair to the guests staying over night.

We have done some of the Pointes in the past and we have always had a great time. Yes, it can get busy huh? We were pretty lucky because I have also heard horror stories about it being too crowded.

I see that the Pointe at South Mountain has changed hands and it's now called something like Grand Resort. I looked it up and the cost is crazy. It really is too bad because their water resort is pretty good compared to the Tapitio Pointe which is really showing its' age. The lazy river at Tapitio I think is not good. It was warm and looked like it needed a lot of repairs. This was two years ago so I can only hope they took care of it.

Sorry you had rude guests to deal with too. That always chaps my hide when people only think about themselves at the expense of others.

Sorry to hear about your experience....what a bummer. I'd be annoyed too.
We have, on several occasions, done a little stay at the AZ Biltmore (24th/Camelback) b/c we LOVE the casitas at the main pool area (room w/ couch and tv and frig and phone, and full bath, stocked with amenities, covered table w/ misters, not to mention the reserved lounge chairs!).
I'll keep your story in mind the next time we look to go somewhere else!

DH and I decided we are going to stick to the Buttes (near Az Mills). We have stayed there a few times and have always had a great time. We stayed somewhere else when we first moved here 10 years ago and had a great time but can't remember the name of it! Somewhere off the 17, we think???

Oh well, live and learn. Over all the kids had a nice time and got lots of swimming in....that is always a good thing!

Wish you would have had a better experience. I've never stayed at that hotel, however my family and I are looking to do a stay at home vacation as well in August. I heard the Westin Kierland and Hyatt Regency Gainey Ranch are nice. Try out some other resorts down the road - in hopes of a better experience. I know thos summer deals are great - but not if you cant enjoy yourself.

We stayed there one Friday night in May and loved it! We used the water park both days and we loved the lazy river. We did not have any of the problems you experienced. Also, it was not quite as crowded then as it probably is in the middle of the summer.
