Anyone know a great Mother's Day restaurant

ctlbridges's picture

OK, our Mother's Day tradition is to got out for brunch on Mother's Day and we can't find a great place with a special Mother's Day buffet. We've done the Holiday Inn....eh, it was so-so, and we've done the restaurant in the Best Western at Dobson and the 60...better than the Holiday Inn for quality, but less on selection.

We've only been here a little under 3 years, so I need help with suggestions for places. Where we moved from back east had TONS of great selections so our mission was to find a new one every year to see if we could top the previous year. I'm having a hard time here even finding somewhere that offers a special menu or buffet for Mother's Day.

Please help...we're looking primarily for East Valley, but a really good place downtown would be worth the trip into Phoenix.

Thanks...you're all the greatest.

Orange Tree! It is

Orange Tree! It is fabulous!!!
Centrally located, just off the 51 on Shea at 56th St (so not far off the 101 either).

Very nice, elegant, delicious hot food that is quickly replaced before the pans get empty. Piano player, ice sculptures, flowers given to the moms....

They have all the standard stuff of omelette station, waffle station, carved meats from the guy w/ the tall white hat, all the yummy breakfast foods, plus chicken, potatoes, salmon and lots of other lunch foods, HUGE salad area with all the nice pasta, fruit and lettuce salads (about a dozen)....plus wonderful extras, like a full sushi buffet, complete raw bar w/ shrimp, Alaskan King crab legs, smoked salmon, big breads, bagels, pastries, cereals, etc. and a dessert buffet w/ made to order bananas Foster (think: flaming!)....
Oh, and they include the champagne in your price!!

Probably about 200-250 items to choose from. Seriously.

About $38-40 for adults, I think $19 for kids 6+, 5 and under is free.
We love it - we go for both Easter and Mother's Day for the past 10 years.

This does sound like a winner! It's a little pricey, but what isn't anymore...and we certainly weren't satisfied with the more moderately priced places.

Thanks for the suggestion and the description.

From some of the posts, I think I somehow implied that I was looking for a place to take MY mom, when actually it is me that's the mom. I love cooking in and doing a brunch, but I don't cook at all on Mother's Day. We brunch out and my husband grills for dinner. The 5 and 10 year old set and clear everything. Truly a gift.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you as well.

How about staying in for

not_the_mama's picture

How about staying in for brunch? It isn't that hard. What kind of breakfast/brunch does your Mom like? If you can do it at home, you can invite more folks (I'm thinking, for example, about my Mom's neighbor who is recently widowed).

Rather than pay a generous per-person tab, you can split the cost between the kitchen gadgets that you'll use again and good-quality ingredients.

I do totally understand tradition, but, between gas and food prices, eating out, right now, is so much more expensive than the experience is worth. Moms appreciate creative frugality.

I have not gone to the

I have not gone to the Orange Tree for brunch, but it sounds like a winner.

The Point at South Mountain was good. I think they renamed the resort though. I will go look and come back with the new name...... Okay, it is now called The Arizona Grand Resort....google it and see what you think.

We usually have an early dinner with our family on Mother's day but I know that Superstition Springs Golf Club has a really good mothers day brunch. They are on Power and Baseline. www.superstitionspringsgc.com

Each year we do mothers day

cdoyle1113's picture

Each year we do mothers day brunch, and we pick a new place every year. This year we are doing the San Marcos Golf Club, it’s a great price and they still have table s left. Over the past few years we have had some great hits and ok misses: The Compass Room at the Hyatt downtown- the revolving restaurant, great view but pricy! Latitude 30 (South mountain), Fiesta Inn Resort, Gainey Ranch, Tempe Mission Palms (one of my favorites), Legacy Golf Resort, McCormick Golf Resort (any golf resort will have brunch), and hands down my favorite is Wrigley Mansion. Wright's at the Biltmore is suppose to be the best place in the valley. Any place in AZ you will usually need to make reservations 4-6 weeks in advance. Good luck, and have a great Mother’s Day!!

We usually go to Karstens

caret's picture

We usually go to Karstens Golf Course at ASU for Mother's Day. They do a really nice champagne brunch and you can sit inside or on a covered patio that overlooks the golf course. They are a little pricey - $39 for adults and kids I think are $15. The food is always really good though. They have set seating times of 10:00 or 12:30.

They also include with your brunch a family photo on the golf course.

Hope you find some place good to go.

Wow! We just got back from

ctlbridges's picture

Wow! We just got back from San Marcos Golf Resort in Chandler and it was great! My 10 year old had a tummy ache from all the goodies and all 4 of us were full to the brim.

The selection was fantastic and the quality was good as well. The service, while friendly, was a little slower than it should have been considering we were one of the last seatings of the day, and it wasn't busy any longer.

Nice touches...the long stemmed rose for all the moms, the live music, and the unlimited champagne.

Thanks for this tip. I know where to come for great dining advice from now on.

Happy Mother's Day to all.

Laurie
