Here are some good tips they had posted to reduce your chance of getting sick:

Prevention methods

To reduce the chance of getting salmonella from tomatoes, the Arizona Department of Health Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta recommend:

• Anyone with increased risk of severe infection - especially infants, elderly persons and those with impaired immune systems - should not eat raw Roma or round red tomatoes other than those sold attached to the vine or grown at home.
• Don't buy bruised or damaged tomatoes and discard spoiled ones.
• Wash tomatoes before eating them.
• Refrigerate or discard within two hours any cut, peeled or cooked tomatoes.
• Keep tomatoes that will be eaten raw separate from raw meats, raw seafood and raw produce items.
• Wash cutting boards, dishes, utensils, and counter tops with hot water and soap when switching between types of food products.
• Cook tomatoes at 145 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 15 second to kill salmonella.
• Wash your hand thoroughly and often with soap and warm water especially after going to the bathroom or changing a diaper before preparing or serving food.

A co-worker was sick and found out she had salmonella right out the time indicated in the story. This might explain it.

Does anyone know if there is

Does anyone know if there is something additional you can wash your veggis with. Preferably homemade. Is the salmonella on the outside? We just purchased a huge bag and threw them in the produce drawer with everything else then read the article in the paper.
