Everyone knows I love sugar. I'm also a big take-out eater. So I found it interesting marketing that McDonald's is doing "healthy" choices on their menu.
I do eat there on occasion. And I've always encouraged the kids to get the apple slices instead of fries and milk instead of soda. I haven't had a Big Mac in years, opting instead for a salad (with little or no dressing) and the grilled chicken strips rather than crispy. Ok, sometimes I get a Big & Tasty without the mayo and I sneak a few fries.
But I found this interesting: "Each meal includes a minimum of two servings of beans or whole grains, fruits or vegetables. Meals contain fewer than 700 calories, with less than 30 percent of total calories from fat (and 15 percent of total calories from saturated fat). Items also have less than 1,500 mg of sodium. "
Do you think this is really going to help McD's image as a place to go with the kids?

That doesn't sound healthful to me! Do I want my 5 yr old eating 1500 mg of sodium in one meal?! 30% fat? That's the MAX it should be. For fast food, subway still wins for my kids.

I'm pregnant and had big mac yesterday. Haven't had one in years. I do not think it's a healthy choice even with the changes. I prefer my kids drink water to milk as I feel it prouduces lots of congestion in them. They do like going there also enjoy Subway and chik fil a - wonder if this is healthier?
I grew up with fast food
I grew up with fast food being a rare treat and that's how we do it in our family too. Since it is a once or twice a month thing, I don't feel too bad if my kids get fries or chicken nuggests. It helps that I HATE fast food and I HATE spending that much on it. It's sad that eating out is a way of life instead of a special occasion kind of thing.

Well, maybe it will help the image some. Anything healthier always helps. I'm not a huge fan of McD's - recently I was introduced to Chick-Fil A (probably not any healthier) and I just like their food and service so much better.

I just find it interesting. The place is always packed, especially on early release days from school. So obviously lots of moms don't mind going there. I go - I just try not to do it a lot.
And, it's true, the sodium seems incredibly high. My mom prefers BK over McDs for that reason. She said the patties are fresher and have less sodium preservatives there vs. McDs. Honestly, I haven't checked. But I suppose the best thing is to make it yourself so you can control what goes in the hamburger.
