Vitamins

My son and I take multi-vitamins every day but I have heard so many conflicting reports about vitamins that I was wondering if anyone could help me out. My son takes the flinstone chewables and so do I. I know that it sounds funny that I do, but frankly, adult vitamins make my stomach so upset. I have tried the ones without iron, but I know iron is essential also. Does anyone have any suggestions and do the vitamins I give my son help, hurt, or do nothing for him?

My cousin told me about

My cousin told me about Juice Plus and I didn't really listen or decide to take them for a while.. Then after a few months I saw her again and she looked awesome (skin, hair).. Her kids take them too.. They have gummies for the kids and caps for adults or the adults can eat the gummies.. They are whole foods - fruits and veges..

I would recommend a multi-vitamin, that gives at the very minimum, 100% RDA of vitamins and minerals. Juice Plus supplements fruits and vegetables.

I have a 13-yr-old,

DesertMom's picture

I have a 13-yr-old, 12-yr-old and 7-yr-old, and over the years our pediatricians have each advised that if the kids aren't getting a completely balanced diet, with all of the vegies, fruits, proteins, etc., that they need every single day, then a multi-vitamin is great as a "backup" to ensure they're still getting what they need for healthy growth/development. So I've always given them multi-vitamins. Whatever their bodies don't need gets flushed out of their systems anyway, so I can't see that extra vitamins and minerals would hurt. In the winter time, sometimes I move to a vitamin with extra C in it to help their immune systems.

IF taken as recommended and

jacksmommy's picture

IF taken as recommended and provided that your son doesn't have any conditions to proclude him from taking vitamins, he should. My son has been taking them since 6 months old and he has only been sick once in his nearly 2.5 years. I really think they help boost his immune system and make sure he gets everything he needs on the days when his appetite isn't big enough to fill it with all of the daily requirements. Just a note for you taking those vitamins, you should be taking 2. It's equivalent to 1 prenatal vitamin and great for those who have sensitive stomachs.

I serve a healthy variety of all foods and still have the kids take a vitamin. My son likes the chewables and my daughter likes to swallow pills. It is a taste preference for her. Vitamins are just extra insurance that they get all the nutrients they need.

I would recommend going to

I would recommend going to Whole Foods - they offer you 100% money back guarantee if for any reason you aren't satisfied with the supplements you purchase. Look for a kids multi as well as a women's multi, without too much sugar, dyes or additives.
