yobaby yogurt

MissJan's picture

As promised I stopped by Fresh and Easy yesterday. Free range ground beef was not to be found anywhere. They did have beef raised without added hormones and antibiotics. I don't know what that means. If the animal is corn fed this irritates their digestive systems (2 stomachs - not meant for corn) increasing the risk for infections, even E. Coli.

More on this in Michael Pollan's book - The Carnivore's Dilemma.

The good news! - Stoneyfield Farm's yobaby yogurt which contains DHA is only $2.98 for a six-pack. This product is truly organic - no chemical extractions or harmful antioxidants to keep the fragile fatty acids in tact. There is real fish oil added to their yogurt encapsulated and preserved with rosemary oil..

My 2 year old loved that yogurt. Now he eats the Yo Kids version. He enjoys it with fruit to dip or by itself with wheat germ. Makes a delicious and healthy snack!

Thanks for the yogurt

Thanks for the yogurt recommendation, I usually purchase Cascade Fresh from Sprouts as it has 8 active cultures and it is cultured right in that same cup. I will have to give the one you mention a try.

Too bad about no free ranging beef. Let us know if you find source.

My son liked the YoBaby

My son liked the YoBaby yogurt, but I had a problem with the "evaporated cane juice", which is just sugar. I tried switching to a plain whole milk yogurt to which I added fruit puree ( I made most of his baby food, so I knew it was just fruit), but he had already developed a taste for the sweet stuff. For the next kid, I am skipping the processed yogurt and just going with the fuit and plain yogurt approach.

I agree that the Cascade yogurt is great. I emailed them back when my son was a baby to find out if they had a whole milk version, and got a very nice email back that they did not because they didn't really have the bandwith. I like the Cascade because it has the 8 different cultures, is made with no rBST milk, and is sweetened with fruit juice. In general, I believe that sugar is sugar when used as a sweetener, but I compared labels, and it does have less sugar than most leading brands. My son is a little older now, and he loves the Cascade.

I buy that brand too, the

I buy that brand too, the plain non fat kind and I mix in some cinnamon and a touch of splenda.....sometimes I eat that with some walnuts or almonds for breakfast.
My son doesn't like it.....but perhaps his tastes will change.
I have recently stopped giving him cereals or waffles for breakfast and started getting up earlier and making him eggs with a little cheese....at first he didn't like it, but I wanted to up his protein and cut out a lot of extra carbs....and I can see a difference in him after only a few weeks, and I feel better about what he's eating.

I love this forum. Thanks so

I love this forum. Thanks so much for your comments and insight. I always have great compassion for busy families trying to find the time to feed their children. When I read about the "clean" process of adding DHA to their yogurt I couldn't help but applaude Stoneyfield Farm's effort.

You could easily change gobaby into gomommy - roll up your sleeves and get out the ole mixing bowl. Trader Joe's has an organic Greek style (extra thick) plain yogurt - throw in a bit of organic maple syrup, vanilla, a squirt of Nordic Natural's children's DHA, some fresh fruit and serve with olive oil with whole grain bread for dipping and you have a snack/meal extraordinaire. Fat and food balancing fuels busy bodies and brains.

Whole foods does have free range beef.

I stopped by Fresh & Easy for the first time the other day with my brother. I can see why he like sit so much (very convenient) but very little organic stuff. Good prices, though.
