Lately iced coffee is my treat of choice. And there are a lot of offerings out there. One of our features writers did a fun taste test story. Read it here.
So do you have a favorite. I have to say, I've been driving to McDonald's a lot more lately. But honestly, I haven't tried Starbucks' ice coffees - I'm addicted to their frappuccinos and seem to rarely deviate from that choice.
Also, do you let your kids drink these "cool" coffee drinks? I've seen tons of teens at Starbucks. It has been the thing to do for a few years now.
Anyway, I remember my parents giving me coffee when I was around 10 and I swore I wouldn't drink it ever. It was terrible, but it also lacked tons of sugar that all the yummy coffee drinks have. I recall first tasting it black and then with a bit of creamer. Yuck! Then I got married and I eventually learned you can make coffee taste fantastic with a ton of extras that make you fat. (I started drinking coffee because my husband enjoys reading the paper with a cup - I still can't drink it black, but I've learned to not to essentially drink cream with a splash of coffee.)

One of my favorite cheapy
One of my favorite cheapy CHEAP summertime treats is the frozen flavored coffee drinks at Quick Trip. For about a dollar, you get a frosty, creamy, milkshake-like coffee drink!
I'm sure it's FAT/CAL free!!! (yeah right!), but you know what??? When it's 150 degrees out there and we're sweating our faces off, we ALL deserve a frosty treat!!!
Those are so good. The
Those are so good. The frozen cappucinno is my favorite. Yum and they are only like a dollar.
Oh yeah and I forgot in my other post. yes my children do love takling sips of my coffee and I tell them that it will stunt their growth.

I love the iced coffee..I
I love the iced coffee..I dont get them very often, maybe once a month.i usually got mine from mcdonalds until i moved to buckeye. The only place i have close with them is wendy's and they are better than the mcdonalds i found. I havent tried the starbucks yet either..it would be interesting to see if paying double the price makes them taste better :)
My step (but mostly) son came over with a starbucks coffee the last time he was here. He is 10..his 6yr old brother was not allowed to have one according to his mother. I will make decaf coffee and make the kids a fun drink once in a blue moon..but i don't think it's necissary to give them caffine at such a young age.
I dont drink soda..and my coffee at home is decaf..it's all a flavor thing :)

Funny that you posted this
Funny that you posted this because I love coffee and was goint to post about how I look forward to it in the mornings. I have several favorite iced coffees from Starbucks one being the iced venti non fat quad carmel machiatto. I like Mcdonalds carmel iced coffee as well and love the price. If I have time I make coffee everyday. I drink it the "traditional" Vietnamese way with sweetened condensed milk. Which is the very best way to drink it to me. when it's cold I have it hot and when it's hot I have it iced. My mother drinks coffee all day everyday. You can even get cold coffee in a can that is sweetened with condensed milk at specialty stores like Lee Lee's in Chandler.
This morning was one of those morning where if I could just get out of bed, I could get my coffee and wake up and do everything I needed. I just couldn't get up though. Once I got up and got dressed and made it to the kitchen I nearly fell asleep standing up while waiting for my coffee to brew. Finally it was done and I had forgot to add the coffee!

I love the vanilla iced
I love the vanilla iced coffee from McDonalds. But the only problem is - it's soo good that I started adding french vanilla creamer to my regular coffee so it can taste like theirs. And I've always drank my coffee black with just a little ice to cool it off. Now my favorite drink is gonna get me fat!
:(
I tried the fat free - still loaded with sugar and calories. The sugar free creamer has fewer calories, but lots of fat. Oh well. It's still yummy. I'm gonna go pour another cup right now.
:)
The best bargain for iced
The best bargain for iced coffee is to cold brew your own. It's so simple - and so smooth and good!
Here's the recipe:
Grind one pound of coffee beans on the coarsest setting possible - or use ground coffee if you don't grind your own. (My favorite is Tully's Italian Roast beans.)
Place the coffee in a big pot.
Add two to three cups of cold water and stir. (Filtered or bottled is best.)
Pour and additional eight to seven cups of cold water (you're going for a total of 10 cups of water) over the coffee.
Place a lid on the pot and let it sit overnight - or 12 hours.
Strain the coffee and refrigerate in a pourable container. I use a wire strainer the first time and then a metal coffee filter the second time.
My husband and I - and yes, our oldest son - doctor our cold brew with fat-free Half and Half and Splenda or sugar-free vanilla or caramel syrup.
Lately, I've been freezing some of the coffee into coffee cubes so the iced coffee doesn't dilute when the cubes melt.
This is so good - and so much more inexpensive than buying it.
Wendy's iced coffee is
Wendy's iced coffee is decent. You get an extremely large cup for $1.99.
Sonic coffee treats are very tasty and quite naughty. Nothing low-cal about all of the carmel, chocolate, and whipped cream they use. They use 1 shot of Expresso in all of their coffee drinks. Their drinks come in hot, cold, or frozen. Yum!
QT is another favorite. And, by far, the least expensive.
And, then there is Tully's, located inside of Fry's Marketplace. Their coffee is the most reasonable in the Starbuck's-type arena. They are owned by Fry's so even their pastries are Fry's prices (i.e., about $1). If you use your Fry VIP card, you get the 6th coffee free. I use my freebie credit to buy the most sinful coffee on the menu ;-)

I like the iced vanilla ones
I like the iced vanilla ones from Mc.D's. I actually just saw an ad this morning on the t.v. while getting ready for work about the Wendy's ones and they looked good so I will try them!! I doubt if I'd like the Starbucks ones only because I'm not a fan of their coffee I think it's too strong. I do love their frapacinno's though ... those are super yummy!! I haven't tried the QT ones but they sound yummy and priced right .. at least something in this world still is that's enjoyable :-)
I do treat myself to the
I do treat myself to the starbucks iced coffee every once in a while. Most people that don't like starbucks feel that it's too strong...same goes for the iced. Personally, I like a strong cup.
One of the girls that works at starbucks suggested when you get the iced coffee, ask for the sugar syrup (simple syrup), rather than granulated sugar. It dissolves better in the cold drink.
And I can't believe I forgot one of the all-time best iced coffees...DUNKIN DONUTS!!! Pretty cheap, and just plain good! Back east there is a D&D on every corner, but in AZ they're few and far between. If you see one, you HAVE to get an iced coffee! Hazelnut or French Vanilla flavored coffee (not syrup added). A true good cup of joe!
I love the caramel
I love the caramel Frappuccinos from Starbucks. I'd probably drink one every day if I could afford it and if it didn't have a ton of calories. I only drink about one a month.
My daughter always wants a drink of it. I give her a couple sips but that's all.
