OK Ladies, my daughter's school is having a baking contest as part of their Spring Fair. I want to submit something because I know they need participants, however if I'm in it, I'm in it to win it, LOL! (OK the goal is to not poison the judges, but I like saying that...)
So, suggestions? I have a pecan pie recipe and a peanut butter pie recipe that I'm deciding between, unless any one has another idea. :) Please vote, Pecan, PB or other ______.
Thanks.

I say PB, but I LOVE PB! Do
I say PB, but I LOVE PB! Do you know if the judges have food allergies? Seems everyone has some food allergy these days. Anyway, you don't want to lose just because one of them can't try it. :)

I'd vote for the PB too. It seems a little more unique than the pecan. Good luck!

Well, I am a Kentucky girl
Well, I am a Kentucky girl so of course my vote is for pecan pie (minus the bourbon since this is a school vent,lol).......but one of the posters had a point about the nut allergies being so prevalent..............the below recipie is for a cake, but this is a major hit whenever I make it and it is pretty simple.....people just go nuts over it and say it tastes like a Krispy Kreme doughnut....even if you don't make it for this event, you should try it sometime!

Thanks everyone. Wish I had read this yesterday, for my Mom's birthday I made her a box cake, could have impressed her with Katy's recipe. Differentdrum's recipe sounds yummy too.
What is buttermilk anyway?? Is there a substitution that can be used, or is there a way to make it, does anyone know.
I think I"ll go with PB Pie, that is a bit more original, and my pecan pies come from the recipe on the KARO syrup can anyway, so no family secrets there.
I think a pie judge with a nut allergy would be really lame, surely one would have to be able to eat all kinds of pie. We'll see!

you can buy buttermilk in
you can buy buttermilk in any grocery.....I think it has more butterfat in it but it has a very sour taste, like sour milk.....you can "fake it" by mixing milk with vinegar......I got this recipie years ago from allrecipies.com, I had tasted it as a child when one of my dad's aunts made it, but I never got the recipie, I was happy to find it online......anyway if you go there and read all the comments on this recipie some of the ladies talked about how the approximated the buttermilk.
I always buy it, so I have never done it that way.
