Help! My three year old has a canker inside his bottom lip and it's driving him crazy. It hurts when he eats and it's making him grumpy (and, let's be honest, me a little grumpy too). Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

If he is capable of doing this, have him swish some salt water around in his mouth a couple of times a day. That should help to heal it up! Poor guy, hope it's better soon!

Switch his tooth paste to Biotene until the sore is gone.
Also have him rinse with an antibacterial mouth rinse a few times a day. I can't remember the name of the one I buy over the counter, but it's a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, but doesn't taste that bad. That is if you don't think he'll swallow it. Also, don't let me eat or drink anything that is acidic or irritating like chips, until the sores healed up.

Dip a Q-Tip in Malox (or a mix of Malox and Benedryll, depending upon how bad it is) and apply it to the sore. It takes away the sting immediately and last for a couple of hours. Plus, cherry flavored Malox tastes good for the kids too. A nurse at our peditrician's office told me about this cure when my son had Scarlett Fever and got a few sores from the never ending fever. It's amazing!
