Just wondering what you prefer for diaper rash creams?
My 15 month old has diaper rash and his pediatrician says to use OTC products and try to keep him out of a diaper (yeah, like thats going to happen!! Does he want to come clean the mess?!? LOL), unless his skin is broken or pimply. Desitin doesn't seem to be cutting it this time. Do you find that using the different ointments makes a difference? What have you used and what works?

We just used the store
We just used the store brand, they're all the same. Well, read the label that it has 40% zinc oxide. Some of the creamy styles only have 10%.
Also, yeah, it sounds "dangerous", but let him run around bottomless for at least a half an hour a day. The trick is to do it right after a diaper change when you have maximum time before he needs to go again. We did, and our son had a minimum amount of diaper rash (mainly if someone - not naming names - didn't do an adequate job cleaning up a #2). We had a couple of #1 accidents, but it's not as dangerous as you'd think. And Folex carpet cleaner works great on urine if you need it.
And if you have a yard with any grass on it, it's nice out, have him go butt- naked outside (but put a long shirt on him to shield those parts from the sun). Just until you figure out his elimination pattern, so you don't mess up your house too bad.
Of course, now at 32mo, he likes to run around naked, but I'm convinced it's a stage :)

I always liked Balmex the best...but if you really want a product that does the job- call your pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to order you Calmoseptine. You don't need a prescription for it, but you do have to get it through the pharmacy. It should take 1 day for the pharmacy to get it in.
A good friend of mine who is a pediatric nurse at a hosptial recommended it to me when my son was sick and had diarhhea. She said it was her hospital uses for diaper rash. It's really goopy and a little goes a long way- the stuff is a miracle and clears up diaper rash in a heart beat. I only used it for serious issues...thanks goodness we only had a few, but I just always kept it on hand for emergencies and have recommended it to many friends who have used it and swear by it!! Typically the rash was gone in a day or two using Calmoseptine. Good luck!

I'm a fan of good ol' butt
I'm a fan of good ol' butt paste. The stuff just works and it smells good. I've tried other ointments, but they don't work as well and smell weird. My baby is 9 months old and only had signs of a rash 3 x's, of which butt paste wiped out...I use butt paste everyday.
I tried Balmex and Desitin
I tried Balmex and Desitin with my first daughter, it never worked. Someone told me about Aquaphor, so I tried that and it works. I put it on the first sign of a rash and with one application it does the trick. I highly recommend it.

I know the convenience of baby wipes but I found that when my baby would come down with a rash I would use a washcloth with some good o'le soap and water and would just let her air dry. I also found that that desitin worked wonders but I have friends taht swear by the butt paste.
A&D for prevention and
A&D for prevention and Balmex to clear up rashes. Balmex works wonderfully and is SO much less messy than Desitin.

Desitin works for me! I love
Desitin works for me! I love the smell. I avoid the original scent. The key to a healthy but, is to change diapers more often and keep that tiny but dry! and of course, use wipes!
Have Fun!
Have a beautiful day!

If there is a bad rash the non creamy desitin does it for me cause it sticks really well. The A & D doesn't stay.

I used to like the Burt's Bees diaper ointment. I also preferred the all natural diaper wipes.
Bag Balm (found in drug
Bag Balm (found in drug stores, in a green tin) always works great. Also, antibiotics (for ear infections or anything else) often cause killer diaper rash. Some yogurt at every feeding or a little bit of probiotic powder (found at health food stores) will help balance out the good bacteria in the intestines.
A diaper rash that just won't go away might be caused by a yeast overgrowth (Candida Albicans). We use drops under the tongue of Candinex, it works wonders to balance yeast in the body (which everyone has, it only causes problems when the balance is off). I think you have to get it from a homeopathic Dr, but they may have it in health food stores.
Fresh air and sunlight are great too!

aside from using 'butt
aside from using 'butt paste' (that is the actual name) we also use aquaphor all the time - it works all over the body.
