HIVES!!! Not an allergic reaction though??

sassijessie's picture

My 17 month old has had hives now for the past 4 days. They come and go so quickly and do not seem to bother her at all. The only thing at school they changed was detergent, which I thought was the trigger. However, now my 3 1/2 yr old has them this morning and I am at a loss! I read somewhere that a common cold or virus could be the cause, and they both are either getting over the nasty cough and sore throat, or just now getting it. Anyone have any ideas? I get hives all the time, more before I had my girls but this is just too random. And there are 4 girls at my own school(cosmetology) that were breaking out in hives on Friday. Its just too strange. They almost look like little bites, so now that I have disinfected my entire apartment I really don't know what top do. HELP PLEASE!!

Check out Fifth disease.

My son got fifth disease and it was in the school and is contagious in the fever stage. He broke out in what looked like hives but was actually the rash. It was dark one day then light over about 3 weeks. check it out on webmd, for pictures and symptoms. Its a thought.

I do know there is a viral infection going around that has a hive counter part. However it seems it is just ugly not bothersome and they'll go away when the infection is done. What is the status now?

Hi

Did you find out what was causing the Hives for your children and your friends, was it a virus? I am suffering at the moment and today is day 8 of having a mad breakout of Hives. They come at almost the same time every morning and last about 2 hours. The wierd thing is my daughter has chicken pox and a day later my hives start, not sure if it is related. I am hoping my hives are viral and not an allergy. Any info you can give me will be brilliant. I have searched and searched the internet and cant find much about Hives as a virus.
Thank you
