My daughter just lost a tooth! We are all very excited....but what is the going rate???
Obviously, I need an answer soon - and would love to hear a variety of opinions.

Is it the same amount for all teeth? Do you get more for molars?
...I always got more for any that had to be pulled (like for braces, etc.)

Every house seems to have a different situation with the toothfairy. There have been threads on this before, if you want to look in "family" there is one with 10 responses there.

I think $1 or $2 is plenty, especially for the first ones. Good luck! How exciting!

My daughters both received

My daughters both received two of the gold Sacajawea dollar coins for their first tooth. They really thought the gold coins were very cool. You may have to make a quick run to a bank to get them, though.

After the first tooth, they each receive $1 for each tooth that falls out on its own. If it's a tooth that had to be pulled, then they got $2. It's worked and I have had no complaints that so-and-so at school got more than they did (and my oldest daughter is 13!).

I do have a friend whose tooth fairy didn't leave anything if the tooth had a cavity. Now, THERE's motivation for brushing!! :)

I print a note from the

Optimist's picture

I print a note from the tooth fairy and slip $1 into a slit in the note. My son enjoys the note. I found a vaguely outlined, pastel colored fairy image in Publisher, with stars coming off of her wand. The note simply says "Congratulations" and his first name.

I used to give $5 a tooth....but since my son unraveled the mystery of Santa Claus last year he also deduced that the TF was not real.....

We always gave $5 for the first one and $1 for every other one.

If you want to splurge,

hobbymommy's picture

If you want to splurge, there also gifts available from the tooth fairy. The girls get a little pearl for each tooth that is added to a bracelet, and the boys get treasures for a little treasure chest! I haven't reached this milestone with my kids yet, but thought these were kind of cute, though spendy! www.dreampearls.com It looks like they're available at Girly Girlz.

We gave my son a little bit more for the first tooth - $2.50 in gold and silver coins. He thought that was pretty cool.

Thank you so very much

Thank you so very much everyone....I'm grateful for all the replies.
LOVE the concept of the dream pearls/treasure box....

I did $5 for the first tooth

tink's picture

I did $5 for the first tooth and $1 thereafter. It seems like a lot, but I heard some kids get more....and that I find crazy.

I think the dream pearl idea is cute. I couldn't tell you where all the missing teeth went, though. Probably in the den in one of my "to file" containers.

The Tooth Fairy delivers $1

Kindahotmom's picture

The Tooth Fairy delivers $1 per tooth to our house, though when my son had to have a tooth pulled at the dentist because of crowding, he got $5 for the pain and suffering. Having the $1 be made up of change seems to be more exciting because it creates a jingle in the pocket or good noises going into the piggy bank.

My son had 4 teeth pulled

My son had 4 teeth pulled for crowding too. We stuck with the $1 per tooth from the tooth fairy and went to target for a toy for the pain and suffering.

I'm seriously thinking of

I'm seriously thinking of paying for no cavities rather than when they lose teeth.

$1.00 per tooth regardless

arubalime's picture

$1.00 per tooth regardless the type. I've kept all my kids teeth but seriously - what am I going to do with them now?

Mom of teenage boys!

$1 for regular teeth, $2 for

soccermom's picture

$1 for regular teeth, $2 for molars, $5 for the last tooth or any that was pulled out by the dentist. I found it easier to be the tooth fairy if I rolled up the dollar and tied with with a dental floss bow. That way I could palm the money and if the child wakes up, it is easier to hide. : )

Everyone here seems to be on

Sandi's picture

Everyone here seems to be on the same page. I have had friiends give video games, books, etc. That is too much. I think 1 or 2 dollars is great. We did silver dollars.
