Be sure to watch the Today show Wednesday April 16th in the 11:00 hour. He is promoting a bill being talked about in Congress promoting youth fitness. He wants to require physical education for our kids. We are helping to create new fitness criteria for our schools. If you would like to get involved after you see the show let me know and I will give you the contacts to help us make this happen.

He is also in this weeks Newsweek magazine with the title "PE is Not Dead yet!"

After the show I will have another blog to help us move this forward here in Arizona.

Thank you for your interest and I look forward to talking with you more.

Thanks for the update and that is awesome news. This is something I would like to learn more about particularly since I am deeply concerend by the diminishing amount of outdoor time and P E programs in our schools. I worry that our children are being taught to be only book smart and not heart smart.

For a very interesting after-the-kids-go-to-bed movie, rent "Super Size Me." (A good deal of cussing and a scene where he throws up). He does an exploration of school cafeteria lunches and government subsidized meals and how our kids are being fed tons of processed food. It's really disturbing because he finds kids in the cafeteria eating luches comprised of candy bars, cans of soda, and wow - a carton of milk after a cafeteria worker assures him that kids are being taught to make "healthy choices." Healthy choices, eh?

Further, he visits a school for kids who have otherwise been expelled from school. They have fresh & whole foods served at lunch along with a good amount of physical activity. The students categorically improved, both academically and in their behavior. It was amazing.

I will watch for updates!

Thanks for the recommendation of "Super Size Me". I have seen it and it makes you never want to have fast food again. All families should see it.

Here is Richard Simmons website so others can find out about the battle to get PE back in schools.

or you can go to Richardsimmons.com and look for the link.

We need our parents to get involved and show our State representatives that physical education is important to our kids.

Stay tunes, I will have a posting soon about a free fitness day we are hosting at my kids gym in Mesa.

Thanks,
Bob
