Is your partner your workout partner, too?

I tend to do all of my workouts alone or as part of a class. I enjoy the companioship but also enjoy the time alone. I find that my running pace is always much better with a partner.

My husband has expressed interest in joining me for a run but has yet to do so. This is not uncommon. We used to go to the gym together (before kids) and would do our own thing, except we did bike together..

Do you have a succuessful workout relationship with your partner? If so, how do you make it work (especially with kids)?

When I go to the gym it is either alone or with my son.....my husband is working and going to school so he's not interested in going to the gym with us. He was going to the gym early in the morning with a co-worker and he seemed to like that, but he changed jobs and schedules and stopped going. I really wish he'd go with our son, because I think it would be great one on one time for them and would set a good example for the boy....and I'm a terrible basketball player, so I am sure my son would prefer hoops with Dad!
We have gone to the gym together occasionally, but I felt like he found my presence annoying.....it seemed like he thought I was always doing this or that wrong so it was very tense. I prefer working out alone.

I go alone at lunch time.

I go alone at lunch time. My husband is allergic to the gym. The last time we got memberships he never once stepped foot into the gym except to get the membership, so this time around I got it for myself. He could really use the benefit, but he won't do it.

My husband and I have very different workout styles. He's more into it than I am, so I do better not to go with him. (Honestly, I haven't seriously exercised in more than 2 years.)

We may try again, as we are thinking of joining the new rec center near our home. But I don't think we'll be working out together in the end. He likes long vigorous runs and believes workouts should last at least 1 hour on cardio days and 2 hours on weight days. I think 30 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of weights is more than I can stand.

But I do want family workout days, so I may do my thing (short workout) while he does his and then when I'm done, I think I'll join my kids shooting hoops or playing table tennis.

2 hours of weights?

2 hours of weights? lol....that's a lot, I do an hour max, but then again I'm only looking to get toned.........it would be hard for me to fit that into my schedule....but men seem to have more free time for things like that than we do!

Yeah - 2 hours? That's some

Yeah - 2 hours? That's some serious muscle work! Good for you!

I would prefer to do it

I would prefer to do it alone. My husband has asked to do it with me on a few occassions and I do. I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings, but do prefer it alone.

There is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one!

I work out completely by myself. When I started this go around (back in April) I asked him to do it with me and he said no. Even when I go on nightly walks and ask him to come with he still says no so oh well. However, I love my weight loss and now think that if he did do it with me it might be a lot less dramatic that it's been lol...

My boyfriend runs in the mornings while I am getting ready for work and the baby is still sleeping. I run at the gym during my lunchtime or after work with the running stroller (on days when its not to hot). We also like to run together on days when he gets home ealry enough- I love it because I get to run without pushing the stroller! And we get to spend some tiem togetehr doing what we both love to do, not to mention that Mckenzie loves to go out for stroll too!

We are like you and alternate working out and staying home with the girls. I run slower than my husband so when we do get to run together it is usually at my pace, but more fun because he pushes me to go faster. I agree with someone above though because I like the solitude of being by myself in the morning. One thing I LOVE to do is my 7 year old gets up early to run with me on Wednsdays. We only go 3 miles but she rides fast. My quads are always sore from sprinting the next day.
