Autism news in today's paper!

The American Academy of Pediatrics will issue a call for two autism screenings by age two for kids. If it weren't for early intervention therapies, my 4 year old would still be considered at risk for autism. So much can be done for kids if you know what to look for and start therapy early. To that end, you can go to www.aap.org for the warning signs and article that will be published in November.

Another educational tool, a Web site that debuted in mid-October, offers dozens of video clips of autistic children contrasted with unaffected children's behavior. That Web site - www.autismspeaks.org - is sponsored by two non-profit advocacy groups: Autism Speaks and First Signs.

For those of you who may be concerned about their child or who have been asking about autism, please visit the sites above. But please take the warning symptoms as a whole and not on a symptom by symptom basis. As it said in the article, just because your child has tantrums, doesn't mean they are autistic. However, with 1 in 150 kids expected to have autism, chances are getting better and better that we will know a child with autism!

As we really research all

As we really research all this and Autism being diagnosed so much.. i believe that when you listen to all the adds for perscription drugs.. all of them say "if you plan to become pregnant, you shouldnt take".. so many mothers now days are on medication for one reason or another before they get pregnant and all of this along with what you take while pregnant is now affecting this unborn children, Parents need to not be so dependent on medication for every little thing and eat healthier.. BEFORE they decide to get pregnant.. and then stay off meds until their children are born.. But most dont want to because they really dont care.. lets see how many of you write on this and make reasons up for you meds that you are taking, its no excuse and you only have yourselfs to blame.. I also do believe that giving immunizations to such young newborns before their immune systems are developed causes alot of the mental issues we have with kids today too.

You've got to be kidding. Do you ever reread the stuff you write?

Autism is a lot more than parents taking meds during pregnancy. It has genetic components. Environmental components. Immunizations... Allergies... No one knows why kids are getting autism at such a prevalent rate now, but there is a lot of research going on and some very interesting suggestions about autism and parental auto-immune disorders, finding the genes responsible for autism etc.. I agree that no drug should be taken during pregnancy unless it is necessary, but those who do take drugs under a doctor's supervision usually have good cause. And those drugs have been so research that they have been deemed safe for the pregnant mother. While many drugs are unsafe to take while pregnant, some are safe and if you need them, you need them and that's all there is to it!

Easy how you put things girl.
