No matter where each of us sits in regard to the immigration issue, I've got to believe we'd all agree that this is wrong:

The short version is that a Mom slipped into a coma while she was giving birth to her 6th child. The Catholic Hospital where she is wants to deport her to Honduras; she's here legally, her entire family is here, and she hasn't been back to Honduras in 17 years. Because she doesn't have insurance, the family has had to scrape together $20,000 as assurance that the bill will get paid.
I don't know which bothers me more; the fact that "we" can be so hard-hearted, or the comments that people have posted in response to the article.

Very sad. I don't think it
Very sad.
I don't think it should matter if she is legal or not, she is a human. The article said she is here legally, I don't understand how they could even try and dump her into another country. I think that would surely kill her.
I read some of the comments, not many as I could tell they were starting to get ugly. Why I am not sure. It seemed some of these people were trying to put their values onto someone else. Never a good idea. Second guessing what they know nothing about, nor have any control over. So very sad. I hope she recovers - that would be great for her six children.

I understand the hospital
I understand the hospital wants to move her to a long term care facility (which they do not have there) --- but why ship her out of the country? Aren't there any long term facilities around here where she can get the care she needs and free up the bed needed for use by others in this hospital? Sending her to Honduras makes no sense.
New to AZ --- still working out the kinks!
Could you imagine waking up
Could you imagine waking up from a coma and being in Honduras?? Alone, without your new baby or anyone?? You'd have a heart attack!
The comments I saw after the article are actually kind (or funny - have the sheriff's guys escort her to Honduras on one of their "training" trips, is an interesting comment).
Don't give up on humanity yet not_the_mama!

I won't give up, Lovemy4. I
I won't give up, Lovemy4. I think there are still enough of us on the planet who want to love and take care of one another that we can -- as my Grandmother said, hang together so that we won't hang separately. Perfection would be boring.
Maybe if healthcare costs
Maybe if healthcare costs weren't so out of whack a family (legal citizens or not) could afford to fund a long-term care plan without insurance. I worked on the business side of healthcare and I know about the 80-90% write-offs for those with certain insurance companies while other insurance companies paid the entire 80% and the patient was responsible for the other 20%.
Even the consideration of shipping someone to another country because of financial reasons should keep one or two administrators up at night.....
Too sad. It's a shame we
Too sad. It's a shame we live in a world where the almighty dollar is woth more that respect and dignity.
