For I don't know how long I have never had a good nights sleep. I get up almost every hour on the hour. Which was great when I first had my daughter two years ago but now after more than ten years of not sleeping good and being 31, I am always tired. I don't want to take sleeping pills, I am a morning person ( I love my mornings) and I do not want to be groggy. Before I go to the doctor (which I never have time for) I want to see if any of you have had the same problem and what you did to solve it. Please help.

I had this problem too and I am 26. Do you drink coffee? If so do you drink all day? I used to and stopped drinking past noon. I could never take sleeping pills for fear of feeling crappy all day. There has been a few times when I had to take Tylenol PM and could never fully wake up the next day. What I do is just think to myself I am asleep, I am asleep and I always fall asleep. Sounds weird but it works
Try it!

I have this problem too
I have this problem too sometimes, but I find that it is because my mind wanders so much at night. Have you thought about what it is that is waking you up at night? Are you having bad dreams? Is your mind racing at night? Once you find the culprit, you might be able to find a cure. I know for me, my mind races at night about all the things I didn't get done or all the things I need to do the next day. So to help me get to sleep, I write myself 'to-do' lists. I do this almost everyday so that at night, I feel like I'm in control and I have a plan; it helps me stress less about all that is going on.

You need to see a pulmonologist and have a slept study done. My husband has sleep apnea and after a sleep study and using a CPAP machine and now sleeps through the night and wakes rested and alert. Please try this you will probably reap the benefits of it.

You probably should get checked by your doctor. Sleep prolongs your life. I found out my thyroid was a problem.

I forgot the thyroid causing sleep deprivation. Yes go get checked out by your doctor. Sleeplessness can be the caused by a bigger problem. I did have radiation to have my thyroid killed and take synthroid daily.

I would actually go see a naturopath and treat the whole body system. This also will help you avoid pharmaceutical drugs as a band aid. You would be surprised at the healthful and profound effects natural remedies such as diet, massage, accupuncture, herbs and meditation can have on your health.

I am against naturopath in several areas and here is my reason...they DO NOT treat everything and no, pharmaceutical drugs are NOT necessarily as a band aid.
I don't have a thyroid and none of the naturopath stuff works - been there and done them...I actually ended up being hospitalized for a few days to get the synthetic hormone back in my system and then went through extensive follow ups along with lab works to get the right dosage for the long term management.

This is a good comment. I
This is a good comment. I think going natural can be bad if you don't talk to your doctor. If there are other problems not being addressed it can cause way more problems for this woman. It is irresponsible to advise such a thing w/o the instruction of a doctor.

Naturopathic Medical Doctors
Naturopathic Medical Doctors are licensed primary care practioners in Arizona that can run labs, perform exams and prescribe medications. It's important to see a licensed naturopathic doctor as they know, that if you are not producing any thyroid hormone, thyroid herbal supplements aren't indicated. Of course, naturopathic doctors are familiar with both synthetic thyroid hormone and natural, glandular hormone. Which one is right for you depends on you and your body.
I know what natural,
I know what natural, glandular hormone is - amourthyroid...believe me, that stuff does not work at all...my lab work was all over the place every month....that stuff is outdated and old fashioned at best.
I am on brand-only synthroid. I do not even take generic synthetic as it is as bad as the amourthyroid.
Amourthyroid is NOT highly recommended for thyroid issues.

It sounds like you were able
It sounds like you were able to find a thyroid hormone that worked for you and your body. I am so glad! It's true that armour thyroid isn't right for everyone. Some people have thyroid antibodies and armour thyroid could exacerbate their condition. Other people prefer a combination of T3 and T4, whether they get it through a synthetic thyroid or a glandular product. It is so important to treat the individual and not the disease.
errr....I do not have a
errr....I do not have a thyroid "disease." My thyroid was completely taken out due to unknown reason of rapid growth of goiter - literally wrapped around my jugular veins - preventing blood from going down to my heart from my brain - I had an emergency surgery to have it removed. My thyroid was functioning fine prior to the growth. Right now I am diagnosed as hypothyroidism as I am sure you know why - I don't have a thyroid.
And it is also important for people to know what and where amourthyroid came from...
The issue with Amour thyroid is that it comes from pigs. The quality (or purity) of it varies from one pig to another is and have been in question and have been greatly avoided by majority of medical practices, including endocrinologists. Also Amourthyroid used to be - not sure of nowadays - manufactured by the same company that makes Amour All hot dogs and other deli meat...They are NOT certified as "organic"...and there have been discussions/questions raised by MDs on how the pigs were raised/fed for make amourthyroid available for humans.....And snip from FDA: ARMOUR THYROID tablets should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease. Thyroid hormone may increase symptoms of diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, or adrenal insufficiency.
Not very many people are on amourthyroid due to problems with it and again like I said, it is not highly recommended anyway.

I am so glad you are doing
I am so glad you are doing better and that you are so informed about armour thyroid. It is important for each person to make their own decisions about thyroid hormone.. whether they chose to use a glandular thyroid made from an organically raised animal, a thyroid hormone synthetically produced, a T3/T4 combination synthetically produced or armour thyroid.
It is true that thyroid hormone (whether synthetic, glandular, or naturally occurring) affects other hormones in your body as well, including insulin, cortisol (your adrenals) and your heart. That's why it's so important to have your thyroid hormone in the normal range, whether you're supplementing with additional thyroid or not.
The last paragraph - I have
The last paragraph - I have to disagree with you on that as far as whether "synthetic, glandular, or naturally occurring" part goes.
Amourthyroid can give off higher risk (and it has been proven to be so) than synthroid and/or naturally occurring when it comes to problems as mentioned in my previous post even if your thyroid is being closely monitored and within the normal range. That is why there is a warning for amourthyroid.
Thanks.

I have the same problem and one thing I notice is if I work out about 2-3 hours before I go to sleep I hit the bed like a log. I know people say to work out in the morning because it energizes you for the day. But it is the exact opposite for me. It takes my mind off all my worries and just makes me drop into bed.
Good luck.

There are a lot of reasons
There are a lot of reasons why someone would have trouble sleeping. You really should be sharing this with your doctor, it isn't normal not to sleep. My husband had a problem with that also, we always thought he was just a "night person" (his parents included). He wasn't, turns out it is a symptom of what turned out to by anxiety disorder.
You shouldn't wait, GO TO THE DOCTOR! That is really bad for your health.
Mother of 2 beautiful girls!

I'd see a doctor....in the meantime, you could cut back on caffiene, especially after 5pm, but that isn't always the root cause of the issue.
I'm kind of concerned about the kids in your daycare if you are that sleep deprived! If I were you, I'd make time to go to the Dr for a physical and get to the bottom of this, if for no other reason than the safety of the children you are getting paid to care for.
Good luck!
I have sleepng issues too
I have sleepng issues too for many...many years.Mine is caused by anxiety.
I agree you should go to a doctor...there are several reasons why...and sleep is so very good for you. So you have to make time!
I have tried meds but I as well hate them.So I find something that calms me at night.....that doesn't always help me to stay asleep....so the times I wake up...I have a conversation with myself...and I fall asleep...sounds kinda strange...but it helps...

Thanks Katy 1999 for the advise but I take great offense in your comment. If I thought for one moment that any issue I had I would not have children in my home nor would I have my daughter. I provide the children that come to my daycare with a safe, stimulating, fun environment. Before you voice your concerns you should think. All I do every day is strive to make my home the best place a child could be.

I am sorry that you were
I am sorry that you were offended, but my comments were legitimate - blunt, but still valid. Fatigue causes more accidents(household and otherwise) than you may think. If you truly are that sleep deprived, it can diminish your level of concentration, and when you are responsible for the supervision of other people's children, that's a concern - wouldn't you agree?
I hope that you will follow up on this and see your doctor - you need to find out what is the root cause of your insomnia and then treat that.
Hopefully you'll disregard the benadryl advice below - that can't be healthy! Good luck!
Hi I know exactly how you
Hi I know exactly how you feel, but what works for me is taking Benadryl at night. It has Dyphenadrenamene that helps you sleep as well as allergy medicine. I have been sleep deprived for about 15 years and I can not fall asleep unless I take these pills. They are not sleeping pills but they do help and they are not harmful because they help you with allergies. My teenage boys even take them. You can buy them anywhere. I buy the store brand at Wal- Mart. So good luck.
Uhhhhhh....not sure that's
Uhhhhhh....not sure that's healthy. If you can't sleep without these pills, then it sounds like you have become chemically dependant on them, and that's not good at all.
Any medication, even an over the counter one, can be harmful if it's misused or combined with another drug......I think it's misleading to tell someone a medication isn't harmful becuase it can be used to treat allergies.
Exercise! Exercise!
Exercise! Exercise! Exercise!
And ps....that benadryl thing is dangerous.

I know that all of us
I know that all of us mommies can have a hard time finding time to take care of ourselves, but it's important. There are dozens of reasons you could not be sleeping well, and the only way to get to the root of the problem (especially if it's been ongoing for 10 years and is not just an occasional thing) is to visit your doctor. I'm sure they'll take a history and run some blood work.
In the meantime, I would try to limit your caffeine intake, particularly in the afternoon/evening. Perhaps some herbal tea before bed would help (Sleepy Time tea knocks me out!), and maybe some relaxation exercises when you get in bed (deep breathing in through the nose out through the mouth, focusing on letting the tension out of your toes, your foot, your lower legs, and working on up).
Good luck, and hope you're able to get some answers and some rest soon!

I don't sleep well either.
I don't sleep well either. My mind is always up and wondering, and dreaming, and then when it's time to wake up I say "Wait I haven't slept yet!!". I have found that a ton of exercise helps me to sleep. I'm not sure if you do that, and for me every once and a while I take 1 tylenol PM and my husband will watch the kiddo. Otherwise I'm working in my dreams doing something.
It gets pretty annoying I know. Try working out good see if that helps.

Oh and benadryl by the way
Oh and benadryl by the way makes me hullicinate and I get absolutely no sleep, and terrible dreams. I avoid benadryl at all costs myself. My grandmother has the same problem. So no benadryl for this family.

I've take Benadryl on
I've take Benadryl on occasion for allergies, and though it knocks me clean out, I always feel "hung over" the next day--I have a really hard time peeling my eyes open and have difficulty fully waking up.
