" just my Opinion"
This is a really good book,
This is a really good book, I had bought another natural healing book that is probably famous for having an infomercial it did have good information in it but nothing you couldn't look up online, but this one is actually worth buying alot of great information on natural healing and other similar topics, I still think though going to the store to buy medication even daily vitamins is a big ripoff compared to an online pharmacy or natural food / vitamin shops.
I have hypothyroidism since
I have hypothyroidism since age 13 - actually had the whole thyroid removed when I was 27 yrs old. I would NOT recommend using natural remedies to treat hypothyroidism without any doctor's knowledge. Thyroid is not something you want to mess around with as it has many functions/purposes for your body. I know of some people had to be admitted to hospital because suddenly they had what is called a thyroid storm due to not getting the proper treatment or neglecting his/her medication management.
I don't know who you or someone you know is seeing - an endocrinologist or general physician or whatever but I do recommend Dr. Joan Bailey MD. She is an endocrinologist, an exceptional one.
Good luck.

google in Dr. Andrew Weil
google in Dr. Andrew Weil out of the University of Arizona Medical School, he has a Q&A page and you can look up questions on hypothyroidism...He teaches at U of A and is a Medical Doctor that does believe in natural medicine.. But doesnt hesitate to use and recommend conventional medicine. He is highly respected in the Medical field and by his collieges...You may have seem some of his books on the shelves of many bookstores and such.
" just my Opinion"
My father knows Dr, Andrew
My father knows Dr, Andrew Weil. And my father is a pioneer in Vitamin C. He is also all over the bookshelves in the like subjects of natural remedies and he is an MD. Any doctors can "believe" in natural medicine does NOT necesarily mean it has proven documentation of any support out there for what is the best treatment for hypothyroidism alone without synthetic hormone medication therapy.
My father saw that natural remedies did not take care of my thyroid problem alone. And from my own experience, I came to terms that natural remedies did not really help me overall and I just stopped spending too much money on them. What I have found is to stick with your endocrinologist and have your lab done every 6 weeks or 3 months (depending on your previous lab results), take your medicine without missing a dosage. Excerise and eat healthy are another healthy must do with hypothyroidism.
I know natural remedies can help in other issues but when it comes to thyroid, it was a waste and too much to fuss around over nothing.

Well your just one person,
Well your just one person, as I am.. Lara, asked for infor and we both gave her our opinion, the difference is you say you have it, and I have not had to deal with this... So she should do her research and we both gave her plenty of info on it...Hopefully she will look into it all of it.. That cant hurt her one bit. She should also go onto www.azmd.gov Arizona Medical Board-(protecting the public's health) and pull up the doc you recommended along with other doctors to see their history and any liability claims they may have, or any the board has repremended them on...And then go from there...
I will say that i was diagnosed with diabete and high cholestrol and my MD. told be two options, 1) and herb that can lower my cholestrol and my blood sugar levels.. or 2) I could go on conventional meds... I researched it and I chose the Natural way.... I had one friend, (like yourself, who was totally against the Natural way and with all her experience and such) 2 years later, My blood sugar and cholestrol have been normal, and I have my blood check every 3 months by my MD.. The only thing is my insurance doesnt cover for Natural medicine, like it would for perscriptions... But as my doctor has said, I am saving the stress that perscription medicine would put on my kidneys, liver and heart....
" just my Opinion"
Ok DifferentDrum - I don't
Ok DifferentDrum - I don't see anywhere you posting that you have a thyroid problem....Do you?
And I never said I am against natural ways...I said that it is not really recommended for THYROID conditions. Synthetic hormones has to be taken one way or another to balance the thyroid. NOT natural remedies. It can be taken together but really, people I know personally including myself have not noticed much of an difference between taking and not taking the natural remedies because they are not really considered "hormones"...they just I guess supposedly 'optimize' how you feel all over but thyroid is a hormone regulated organ. And taking Synthroid, which is a synthetic hormone, does not have the effects like stuff that can wreak havoc on the kidneys and so on....
And lastly, again, my father is an orthomolecular MD and this is a copy and paste from his website...just in case you have no idea what he specialize in...
"Orthomolecular Medicine emphasizes natural substances such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fats, and diet in the prevention and treatment of diseases. Food and chemical sensitivities, candida, and parasites are considered important. Chelation for the elimination of heavy toxic metals is utilized where needed. I am especially interested in the use of mega doses of vitamin C, both orally and intravenously."
Thanks,

If you would have read my
If you would have read my last repy to Lara, I said i Don't have that problem, but YOU do., did you not see that, I believe it was in the 1st paragraph.....This isn't a dispute of whether you or I have it. It is a lady asking for info, and we both gave it to her... Now she can go with that...And I was not saying you are Wrong... Everyone should always lookin into all options and seek professional advice...A professional can be an MD or a Naturalpathic, they are proff. in their field.....

Honey - I do NOT have a
Honey - I do NOT have a problem and QUIT putting words in my mouth. You need to learn NOT assume or judge a person when the person is trying to make a point across...especially who knows firsthand of a thyroid problem. Instead you go off taking about your diabetes which it is a whole different ballgame than the thyroid conditions out there....
This isn't a matter of wrong or right. This is a matter of facts, NOT BELIEFS...
I can go on and on about what happened to me (and a few people who went through the same thing I did) when I had my thyroid totally removed...and I know you are going to think of something and that you are going to be dead wrong about it because of your proven habit of making rash assumptions.
I wish I have a way to send Lara my private email and go from there...

You said earlier on that you
You said earlier on that you have or had Hypothrodism at least is that not what you said in you first response ot Lara?? That was the PROBLEM I was referring to..Did you not read it through??? Obviously you didn't... And I stated "matter of facts" So get over it!
" just my Opinion"
my bad - I misinterpreted
my bad - I misinterpreted what you said of problem - yes I do have still have hypothyroidism. It is a lifetime problem.
I replied to your earlier post trying to correct some of the things you said like I was against natural ways and so on and I emailed having to correct it. That just got me overlapped with the "problem" statement. I was just trying to get the facts out about thyroid condition and so on. When you mentioned your conditions, it's like comparing oranges and apples. I know you were trying to make a suggestion to a reading material and so on but really, the ONLY natural remedy any person can do to replace the synthetic hormone is called armorthyroid - I can't spell the the armour right - it's the manfacture - Armorall - that makes hot dogs and so on that you see at the everyday grocery store and armourthyroid is a natural hormone from pigs. That has to be prescribed by the MD's. Reason for that is because it varies from one pig to another and it has to be closely monitored. Other than that, there are NO natural remedies to fix the root problem of the thyroid condition. Like I said earlier, you can take a natural remedy with the synthetic hormone but it is only to 'optimize' how you feel....does not resolve the thyroid problem. So in turn, all I do is take the synthrtic hormone daily, eat healthy, and excerise and I am good. No fuzz about it and no more hospitalizations.
That is the facts, not just my experience.
Peace out.

It really depends on the
It really depends on the extent of your hypothyroidism, measured by 3 thyroid hormones found in your blood. For someone who is borderline hypothyroid, it may be treated by supplementing with the precursors to thyroid, such as tyrosine or iodine. Supplementing with tyrosine or iodine should be monitored by a naturopathic doctor or other physician knowledgeable in nutrient therapies. Looking at the function of a person's adrenals is important as well, as the two work together. Long term treatment with thyroid hormone increases the risk of developing osteopenia and osteoporosis later in life, so exploring natural treatments first, in a patient who isn't severely hypothyroid may be a valid option. Consulting with a licensed health care provider is important.

geez louise, some of the
geez louise, some of the posts on here get crazy at times.TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION-
I had hyperthyroidism and then had an ablation and now I am hypo. I tried fish oil, did not work at all. I have not read any of the books but do agree that the thyroid should not be messed with. However I would take the symptons of hypo any day over hyper. In the "medical world of the valley" I too have heard of Dr.Joan Bailey, actually I was just referred to her this week and consulted three friends who all work at different hospitals and all have heard good things as well. and again I have had plenty of experience with this infamous butterfly gland that can do so much damage if it goes out of whack. Hope this helps :)
