Now they say Drugs in water? So which one is right? Bottled or tap???

divaballerina's picture

I turned on my AOL this morning and one of the screens that pops up is a news topics.. This morning it was talking about a test they did on tap water and it said that a probe found a vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones — have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, This is so scary... I know that not long ago I saw a report about how to many people were drinking bottled water so I know moms that stopped giving their kids as much bottled water. Now something like this comes out.. How the heck do you know your family is safe and which water should we be drinking??? Anyone else concerned about this????

Remember the movie Erin Brochovitch????

What really matters is how

What really matters is how much of those things are in the water. This is a typical media scare tactic to me.

Drinking bottled water is worse. It usually is bottled tap water and adds tons of unecessary waste to landfills. It is also expensive. Too bad the media doesn't want to scare us about that but they have to run bottled water advertisements so why would they?

All we drink is bottled

divaballerina's picture

All we drink is bottled water at our house. I even make my baby's formula with bottled water. So I shouldn't be? I don't want to do anything to hurt my kids.. Even when I try and research stuff online I get skeptical b/c which artical is correct? As far as the green issue, I try to be as green as I can. We even use all melaleuca cleaning products in our home. But I have always thought that tap water was the bad choice. Now I am even more confused...

See http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/nbw.asp. You are probably wasting your money on bottled water but I know there have been tap water issues recently in the valley. It's hard to know what to do. Maybe one of those water delivery services is better but I doubt it. At least your tap water is regulated. Good Luck with your baby!

Yeah, I thought this was

Yeah, I thought this was pretty troubling, too. Makes you wonder why there hasn't been more of a push on how to properly dispose of medications?

Do you have a water filter

Do you have a water filter on your tap? If you get a reverse osmosis (RO) filter, it should help take a lot of the "bad stuff" out of your tap water. You're right, it's hard to know what to do with all of the conflicting information, but we love our RO!
