Just returned from a policy forum in Washington, DC, where 250 staff associated with epilepsy support groups and members of families afflicted by the illness, met with Congresspeople and staff about legislative issues affecting people with disabilities. It is important to ask your Congressperson to support the Americans with Disabilities Restoration Act. This act, which originally promised civil rights and equal opportunities for people with disabilities has been so watered down by the courts that many (including people with illnesses like epilepsy which can be controlled by medication or injuries which can be mitigated by artificial devices) are no longer protected. This is of particular concern with disorders, such as epilepsy, being on the increase due to issues, like so many soldiers returning home from Iraq with traumatic brain injuries and artificial limbs. Most Arizona Congresspeople have signed on as co-sponsors of the new bill, but we would like it to be unanimous.

I've seen this happen with other acts. It seems to take a lot of awareness not only to instate acts but to retain them as well. Thanks for advocating for such a great cause.
