This is the first of our new series of postings about epilepsy and kids. Epilepsy is increasing in the US (200,000 new cases diagnosed annually), but few people know much about the disorder. Parents, especially, are at a loss when their child first has a seizure or is first diagnosed. Epilepsy can strike anyone at any time. Monthly I will be posting information relevant to all parents about activities and sources of information we all need to know.
On Saturday, March 29, bring the family out to the 2008 ARIZONA EPILEPSY WALK. This is a fun-filled family event OPEN TO EVERYONE. There will 3K and 5K walks, carnival-style entertainment and refreshments. There are competitions and prizes for teams. Over 400 people walked last year! It will be at Kiwanis Park (6111 S. All American Way) at Ramadas 1 & 2 in Tempe. REGISTER ONLINE at www.azepilepsywalk.org or www.myspace.com/azepilepsywalk. Even if you are unable to attend, you and your family can become Virtual Walkers and become eligible for walk rewards by registering on the same sites. Call Heather at 602-406-3581 if you have more questions after going online.
Come out and have some fun in the sun on March 29! My thanks to our Platinum Sponsors Barrow Neurological Institute, and our many other sponsors, volunteers and participants!

Thanks for posting this
Thanks for posting this information! My 15 yr old was just recently diagnosed and we are still in a tailspin with the news.
Call our office 602-406-3581
Call our office 602-406-3581 and ask for Ellie. She is an excellent resource. Also consider Camp Candlelight, a summer camp for youth up to 15 years old. Ask Ellie to send you a packet and some information. It can be very helpful to newly diagnosed kids. I will be posting information on the camp this week and listing it on the calendar. Your family should attend the Day of Hope Conference on April 19 at the Hassayampa Inn in Prescott. It will provide a lot of information and support on epilepsy.
