Do Serums really help your skin?

SKIN DAMAGE AND SERUMS. DO THEY REALLY WORK WELL ENOUGH FOR THE MONEY?

I asked a client about Serums....it seems like they can help, but is it just another expensive thing we have to slop on our face after toner and before moisturizer?
This is what she shared with me....lots of info, examples and options to consider when you are looking to look younger, fresher. Just wanted to share!
Thanks!

"Serums work topically at the surface of the skin and will gradually lighten skin pigmentation over time if used consistently and faithfully. However, you are not going to see the real, overnight results that you can see with a laser treatment. Let me give you my analogy:

When you cut up an apple, oxygen hits the surface of the apple (these are free radicals) and the apple turns brown/dull. Just like your link below states, smoking, sun exposure, aging tends to dull our skin – it doesn’t look as vibrant as it used to (we look like the dull, brown apple). We use antioxidants and humectants – the properties found in these serums to gradually lighten and plump the skin. An antioxidant is similar to a lemon – citrus that you would use on a dull brown apple to lighten it. Humectants bind moisture to the skin and make it more plump. The properties found in these serums are great, but it’s going to take time and it won’t work on the deep browns. Make sense?

However, the FotoFacial laser can target all the browns under the surface of the skin and break up the pigment, bringing it to surface which will slough off in a few days. The Titan laser actually heats the dermis - down deep to tighten the elastin in the skin so you have long lasting results – the serums just don’t compare to the efficacy of lasers."

If you are curious about some of your options, here are various treatments people seek when not wanting to go under the knife.

HOW TO CLEAR UP THE DAMAGE DONE BY THE SUMMER SUN!

1. FotoFacial is #1 to get rid of sun damage for face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, legs and back.

2. Levulan is a nice add-on to FotoFacial or as a stand-alone treatment for a nice peel and to kill pre-cancer cells.

3. Darker skin types should use the Cosmelan (light skin can use this too).

4. Laser Vein removal and laser genesis for the tiny spider veins that pop up and redness from over-exposure to the sun

5. Microdermabrasions and chemical peel are great exfoliators to get rid of the dry dead skin cells and soften the skin.
