Breastfeeding Tip: Latching

crobertsaz's picture

It was so hard for me to breastfeed my first child...my breasts were sooo full that she couldn't latch correctly. She was off and on and off and on until my nipples were blistering and bleeding. So I pumped for six weeks just to allow her to receieve as much beast milk as possible.

With my second child I was still in lots of pain, but I experimented a little more and realized that if I pumped 2 -3 oz (granted my entire breast was 5-6 oz of milk) then my breast was much softer and relaxed so that she could latch.

So try to pump some milk out until your breast becomes softer and then latch.

Now on my third child I realize that with my first my body over produced milk, and my second by body wasn't as full and now with my third I don't even need to wear breast pads because my milk is perfectly regulated for as much as my son needs.

Good to know :)

Thanks for the tip.

I remember doing that, too, when my kids were little. I didn't usually have a latching problem, but some days I just was extra full. The bonus is that I had extra milk for daycare or going out later.
