Looking for moral support ideas

ReneeD's picture

I have a friend who is trying to conceive a child and has been for the past 2 1/2 years. I've been trying to be supportive, but I'm just not sure that I'm reaching her or saying things the right way. I've never been through this; I've never had a problem getting pregnant. Has anyone been through this and if so, what can I say to her to make her feel better?
I have blogged about this and you can see my whole story at http://babybootcamptempe.blogspot.com.
I'm really looking for more ways to encourage her and to give her hope that she will conceive and that everything is going to be alright.
Please help either here or on my blog.
Thanks so much!!

What's important, I think,

What's important, I think, is to be supportive by listening. She has probably heard people say things like, "it's God's will", and "if it's supposed to happen, it will". If she's going to the doctor, and her husband can't go, offer to go with her. Be interested in what's they're trying (outside of the obviously private ones).

Just let her know that there's somebody on her side.

I guess the thing is,

I guess the thing is, everything may not be all right. These days, there are lots of people who don't get pregnant. I think just letting her know you are sorry and that your willing to listen to her frustrations is best. Let her guide the conversations...if she wants to talk about it, she will.

I wanted to thank you both for your comments! I am new to this site and am just amazed by how many Moms are communicating here and offering such great advice, ideas and support!
Thank you again!
