Just recently, I've started seeing little gnats or flies around our fruit on the counter. I tried putting all the fruit in the refrigerator for a day but the kids don't really like cold bananas. Any other suggestions on how to get rid of bugs like these?
Thanks for any suggestions

I'm curios too, because I've been noticing them too lately. I wonder if it's just the season? I don't know, good question though.

Ok so i am NOT going crazy! I am seeing the little suckers all over my kitchen!
I have no clue what they are from and would LOVE to know where they are comming from and how to get rid of them!

I started seeing them a couple of weeks ago in one of my bathrooms, and now they are all over my house! I had my bug guy out yesterday, and he said they are really hard to get rid of without fogging the whole house. All my animals and kids would have to be out for at least five hours, then ALL surfaces would need to be wiped down. Otherwise, he said just wait and see if they die off when it gets a little hotter. Unfortunately, they are multiplying exponentially. UGH!
Hi all, I grew up in fruit
Hi all,
I grew up in fruit fly/gnat central (fruit flies tend towards food waste, gnats are a little bigger and tend towards drains - this creates an identification problem in the kitchen where your food waste goes down the drain ).
Anyway, the trick is to get rid of the source of their pleasure. For us, this always meant bleach. Use a weak bleach solution on the countertops, clean out the sinks with the same mild bleach (and scrub so that even little particles are gone), and then send some bleach down the garbage disposal. They won't die off right away, but they will find more hospitable accomodations.
As for the fruit - I say stick it in the fridge for a few days, and tell the kids to deal with it...but if you must put the fruit out, move it to a different part of the house (laundry room perhaps) in a paper bag for a few days until your flies get the idea that they are unwelcome.
Oh, and I forgot to add that
Oh, and I forgot to add that you're going to need to empty your trash everyday if you don't do that normally.

I have lived in AZ my whole life and this is the first time I have noticed them in my house. I am glad I am not the only one.

I hear they also live in the top layer of soil in your plants.
Clay Thompson from the paper says, put out a little glass of red wine and leave it over night. I've done it and lots of the buggers have drowned. I tried white Zin, one night and they didn't like it as much as the red.

Yes, I've seen them too!!!
Yes, I've seen them too!!! They are annoying and all together disgusting....I cover my fruit and put up fly traps.........didn't work!!
I know of a way to get rid of them.....Seen it work for myself.
We had an infestation of these things at work and successfully got rid of them!!
Fill a cup half-full with apple cider vinager and a few pumps of Dial soap or Dish soap......mix it up......then set out these cups (traps) in the areas you are experiencing them the most.
The apple in the vinager attracts them and the soap kills them instantly when they fall in. The cup will be full of them within a day.......
The only drawback.....vinegar has a very strong odor and it will overcome the room it is in.......small price to pay for a few days...considering the outcome......
