The Cox Splash Playground at Tempe Beach Park was closed Friday after a water sample tested positive for cryptosporidium, city oficials reported.
All four of Tempe's public pools and both splash parks were tested, Tempe Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Denise Rentschler said. Only the splash playground at Rio Salado Drive and Mill Road tested positive for crypto.
Rentschler said the park was immediately closed to undergo disinfection and the installment of a UV water treatment system. She said the water will be tested again on Monday.

They say it is pretty common. That it is possible to get it from a babies diaper. With all the closures it makes you think twice about using a public pool.

I discussed with my mom this parasite. She is a doctor. Anyway, she said for someone with a normal immune system - this bacteria will run it's course with diarrhea etc... Like you get sick - then you get better... However, if someone with HIV or AIDS - or someone with an immune system that is already compromised - it can be very dangerous and is extremely hard to get rid of... So it can be a very scary thing!

Yuck!
I can't take my son to any of these places anymore.....I'll get flamed for saying so, but I think a lot of these low cost venues(like city pools, etc) attract a crowd with questionable hygiene standards, which is sad because these are really nice facilities.
We took our son to the city pool on Kyrene a few times before we had our pool built, and the last time we went we saw something that really grossed us out.
No thanks! We'll stick to our pool at home.
