So I was in Target over the weekend and my husband asks me if I wanted to get a new book or something (I had a rough day and he was trying to cheer me up). I said maybe but if I bought a book I wanted to get a baby one (yes I've had a baby but that was like 8 years ago). So we go over and I'm scanning the usual "what to expect when you are expecting" and the "girlfriend's guide to pregnancy," and this lady with her young daughter and says to me, "if you get any book, you need to get Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy. It was one of 2 things that made me laugh hysterically while I was moody and pregnant." So I decided to forgo the book buying and do some research online about this one. I found some excerts from this book and I'm buying on my way home. This book is a fantastic read (totally funny and like myself, HONEST and STRAIGHTFORWARD)! Any other book suggestions?? I'm not pregnant yet, but thought that some reading up on pregancy, child birth and other situations would be good since I've been out of the game for a while.

I agree--Jenny McCarthy is a really cute and down to earth writer. You might also like Vicki Iovine's books--The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy and The Girlfriend's Guide to Getting Your Groove Back (post-pregnancy). They're a few years old but really fun. Also, The Three Martini Playdate cracked me up--it's more about childrearing than pregnancy but it's pretty funny and silly. Good luck to you! :)

I applaud your efforts to start reading now! I have a stack of magazine and books, but with 2 little ones, I hardly have time to read! I manage one book per month for my book club, but other than that, the piles keep growing!! Maybe someday...
