Baby Shower Games - What's New & Fun

azpond's picture

I've been put in charge of my cousin's baby shower games and I really want to make them fun and special for her and the guests. I've been to many baby showers but it's been awhile. Are there any new games that you would recommend?

I LOVE reading your posts

I LOVE reading your posts and comments, I always get a good laugh!

I actually went to a baby shower with an open bar once, just like a wedding reception. We could have just whipped out some extra cups and started playing beer pong!

A gross but fun one is buy

prekmom's picture

A gross but fun one is buy several different kinds of baby food in jars. Then take some diapers and put 1 kind of food in each diaper. Then the guests have to open the diaper and guess what kind of food is in the 'dirty diaper.'

I've played this game with

I've played this game with different kinds of candy bars but not baby food. That sounds fun!

I just went to baby shower

MrsPeppermint's picture

I just went to baby shower recently and they had baby food jars without the labels sitting on a tray. Guests could smell, taste or whatever we wanted to do to try to guess. She wrote the numbers of the jars on the bottom in marker to keep track. She had 8 and out of everyone there, only 3 people got one correct and one person got 2 correct so it was pretty hard. She did pick out some crazy baby foods though like Ham & Pineapple!
Another game is guess how many diapers are in the jar. The hostess had a really pretty lemonade jar she borrowed from her mom that her mom had gotten at Costco. It was an odd shape so guesses were all over the place from 27 diapers to 70 so it made it fun(there were 65). Everyone would take a guess as they came and place it in a little box. The diapers went to the mom-to-be.

Thank you!! I love the "How many diapers" game! I'll add that to my list!

I've also played the baby food jar game but never opened the jars. We would give the baby food to the mom-to-be after the game was over. It's a great game!

Hmm at the baby shower I was

mamaofone's picture

Hmm at the baby shower I was recently at we had to take string at cut it as big as we thought she was pregnant. So measuring how big she was from her back all the way around to her stomach, in a circle. The closet to her actual size won a prize.

We also played baby shower bingo. Where we passed out blank bingo cards and wrote down in all the little squares different things you thought she was going to get for presents. When it came time to open presents you would mark off a box if she got that item, etc. until you got bingo and you got a prize!

I'm horrible and trying to explain, haha

Also she had everyone bring diapers and depending on how many packs you brought you got a raffle ticket for another prize, each pack got you a raffle ticket.

At the last shower I hosted

jacksmommy's picture

At the last shower I hosted we did 2 games:

1. Celebrity baby name game: You can select a list of 10-12 celebrities and have the guests fill in the blanks as to what their child/children's names are or vice versa.

2. Old Wives Tales: List 10-12 old wives tales about pregnancy that have to do with the sex of the baby and have the guests guess whether the baby would be a boy or a girl based on the old wives tale(everyone got a kick out of this one, especially the moms and grandmas at the shower)

I just printed these out on colored paper with really cute clip art. Then I gave away cute vintage teacups with a bag of loose tea to each of the winners(we had a tea party)!

One other game/door prize was that I had the lady who made my pregnant belly cake hide a small plastic baby boy in the belly of the cake when she baked it. The person who got the slice with the baby also got a prize.

These games are great and

A game we did at my shower

pvmom's picture

A game we did at my shower was where you had everyone write down what their nickname was when they were a baby/growing up, and then try to match it.
It was fun to see what other people's parents came up with for nicknames...almost everyone has a nickname for their child.
It's kinda a simple game, but could get some laughs. And then you have prizes for most names guessed.
We also did a game where everyone got a prize. It along the lines of 'memory', but every match would have a specific candy bar that the person would get with that match. Everyone gets one match, meaning everyone gets a candybar. I'll contact my friend who put the game together and get the matches for you-they were cute little sayings...and then you would match them up with the candy bar. I can't remember any of them (almost 1.5 years ago).

I remember one. Every

sdebralh's picture

I remember one. Every visitor cuts a string of yarn the size they think would fit around the pregnant mom's belly.
Give a small gift to the winner or to the person that is the closest.
It is so funny to watch the mom measure each string around the belly, because the lengths will be all sizes. Some make the mom have wishful thinking.

When I hosted a baby shower

arizona_mom's picture

When I hosted a baby shower I put on the invitation for every guest to bring a baby picture of themself. I put each person's picture on a table with a number and everyone had to guess who each one was. We looked at some pretty neat pictures and enjoyed the "oohing" and the giggles.

A shower I went to once was

jeleighbean's picture

A shower I went to once was with males and females and we played the funniest game! We got into groups (of 3-4) and each male at the party was placed in one of those groups. We used a roll of toilet paper to diaper the guy (no tape, pins, etc to hold it up) and the mom-to-be chose the best looking diaper. :) It was so funny to see all these grown men in 'diapers'.

I've used a sheet of paper listing the names of the mom and dad-to-be and asked guests to come up with as many names as they can (for the baby). You can use their middle names also to give more variety. Diaper a doll while blindfolded (you have to shake the baby a bit to make sure it stays on). Word scramble (use common baby item words-powder, pacifier, bottle, crib, exersaucer, etc). At the start of the baby shower, as guests come in, give them all a piece of bubble gum. A bit later, ask them all to design a baby out of the gum, mom chooses her fave. Give everyone a piece of paper/pen, have them place paper on top of their head and attempt to draw a baby, again mom chooses best drawing.
One year for my sis I bought her a wicker laundry basket and placed multiple baby items in it (powder, bibs, pacifier, wipes, etc) and passed it around to all the guests to view. We played a different game, then I asked all of the guests to write down what they remembered was in the basket. The person who recalled the most won a prize. At the same shower, our mom gave her an adorable 'baby's first piggybank' and we passed it around and all of the guests put something in it and added what their wish/dream for the new member of the family was. :) It was really sweet, and gave baby a head start on saving for college. ;)

Good luck!

I just found out it's a coed

There is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one!

I have been to alot of baby

mommyandwife's picture

I have been to alot of baby showers and some of the games we played were:

1. Pour some rice in a bowl and mix the little safety pins in the rice, then blind fold the person and have them try to find the pins with out pulling out the rice.

2. Get two baby dolls and see who can dress the baby while they are blind folded.

3. Get a long piece of string and put clothes lines on them. Using only one hand see who can remove the most clothes pins while saying a baby item once, and not dropping a pin.

That is all I can think of right now off the top of my head. Hope this helps.

The rice/safety pin game is

Madrede4's picture

The rice/safety pin game is so hard to play. It looks super easy and it isn't. To make it more interesting and to get a few more laughs, have two people compete at the same time, except, remove the blindfold from one if the competitors, and have them pick out the safety pins. The other competitor will be amazed at how many she/he was able to pick out. So fun.
