Just moved to the area - need advice on hospitals for delivery :-)

Roman.sMom's picture

Hi ladies! We just moved to Phoenix (staying in Downtown until we find a house) and I am curious if anyone has suggestions as to where to deliver my baby. I am due in 5 weeks! :) I don't have an OB here either so if anyone can suggest someone (preferably female), I'd be grateful.

Thank you so much! ~ Deni

Camelback Womens Health 4530 N. 32nd Street approx. 32nd street & Camelback Road area. Dr. Kathleen Schwartz. 602-468-3912. Hosptial Good Samaritan 1111 E. McDowell Rd. approx. 11th Street/McDowell 602-239-2000. Both the OB office and hospital are in the vicinity of downtown. I would highly recommend both of these facilities!!

Thank you so much! We toured

Thank you so much! We toured the Good Samaritan yesterday and liked it a lot. We also tried St. Joseph's but they wouldn't let us tour when we wanted to, so we wrote it off. :) Someone (outside of this forum) suggested Scottsdale Shea? Have you heard good things about it? It's far from DT but I figure I probably will have time to get there since this is my first baby. I've heard it takes longer the first time. :)

Scottsdale Shea is one of the best hospitals, but no so close to downtown.

You are lucky if you get to

You are lucky if you get to choose where you want to deliver! I delivered at Thunderbird Samaritan in NW valley. Had a large private room, big enough they brought in a little rollaway for Daddy to sleep on, and overall we had a great experience there. My OB was Judy Tom, and she was fantastic. I delivered by C/S.

Thank you! I am finding a hospital first and based on that, will look for an OB. I suppose that's why I get to pick where I want my baby to be delivered. :)

Scottsdale Shea is AWESOME

Scottsdale Shea is AWESOME ... this is where I delivered actually, but didn't recommend it because you mentioned downtown area. However, if I had to choose any hospital Scottsdale Shea would be the one. You labor and give birth in the same room, there is not a nursery so your baby is with you at all times :-) which for me I liked. I know some mom's like the down time to sleep and what not, but she was my first and I wanted her with my every second. If you need a break the nurses will take them for you out to the nursing station and watch them. The rooms are fabulous, very spacious, fridge, microwave, small window sill sleeping bench area for the daddy ... DVD/CD player, etc. also the OB I recommended to you delivers there too!! Check Scottsdale Shea out for sure if you don't mind the drive!!

Thanks for all your input.

Thanks for all your input. That really helps. I'll be going to the Scottsdale hospital tomorrow and figure out what to do. Thanks again! :)

I agree about Scottsdale

I agree about Scottsdale Shea! My labor and delivery room was HUGE and so comfortable. Having my son with me the entire time was wonderful...and the nurses were so good. At one point I thought I was losing my mind from lack of sleep and hormones and the nurses were all over me! They were truly concerned and made it a point for my doctor to know. (I mean, I was very emotional!) It was nice to know that the girls were so aware of my state of mind and it was even better that because of their concern, my doctor talked to me and made it a point for my nurse to take my son to the nursery for an hour or so, just for some sleep!
PS. My husband slept comfortably, enjoyed the tv and dvd player and had a nice full belly the whole time! Scottsdale Shea is definitely worth the tour!!!

Banner Desert is the BEST!!!

I delivered at Scottsdale

I delivered at Scottsdale Shea which was great, but Scottsdale Osborn is unbelievable. I reccomened Dr Moon of Valley OB GYN. Easy to get to from downtown. Also my grandmother was a patient of Banner Thunderbird, which is far away, but perhaps a closer Banner hospital would also be a good choice. good luck!

I delivered both my children

I delivered both my children at Arrowhead Hospital. I love my ob/gyn. He awesome. I had been sceptical at first about having a guy but he is really professional. He's really funny. The doctor's offices are connected to the hospital. It's very quiet also, not alot of people go there as of yet. They brought in a cot for my hubby to stay on and the nurses are absolutely wonderful. They allowed me to stay at the hospital three days after the birth of my children which is awesome. Most places won't let you do that anymore. The birthing rooms are big. The recorvery rooms are a shared room but if you have alot of family or want the privacy they will usually allow yuo to stay in the birthing room as long as they aren't too busy. Hope this helps some!

I was browsing some

I was browsing some magazines today and I saw "Phoenix" magazine just came out with its Best Doctors in AZ 2008 issue. When you find your hospital you might be able to find a doc in there that has privileges.
