I was just told at my Doctor Appt. yesterday that my blood test results show that I am RH-negative and that I will need the RhoGAM injection at 28 weeks. Are there any Moms out there that have had the shot in the past, or Moms to be that are in the same situation I would like to hear how you feel about the injection and possible effects on the baby. My Doctor made it seem like it was no big deal and very routine. After researching it on the internet, the routine part is what scares me. I have been reading allot about it and weighing my options...the more I read the more unsure I become. Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.

I am also RH Negative. You
I am also RH Negative. You really do need to have the shot at 28 weeks and after birth as well with each and every pregnancy including any miscarriages. Your first pregnancy usually isn't affected by the rh factor, unless there is some trauma suffered that causes your blood and your baby's blood to mix, it will be subsequent pregnancies that have a problem that could result in the the baby having hemolytic disease or even dying. This happens because your body will make antibodies against the baby and attack it like it is a foreign object. Do a little research on it and I think you will find that this is in the best interest of your children.
I am also RH- and very
I am also RH- and very honestly, I didn't research anything, I just had the shot.
My first concern was the baby. I'm sure my doctor explained possible reactions, etc with me (that was well over a year ago). My main impression was that if something happened to me (car accident, falling down stairs, etc), and my blood and my baby's blood mixed my body would reject that 'foreign blood' and attach my baby. That didn't sit well with me.
I didn't have any adverse reactions to the vaccine itself. At the time of delivery my son was tested, and according to blood tests I didn't need the shot again. (It had something to do with him being negative also, too, I think).
My doctor also said that it will help with next pregnancies, too, because your body will not know that there is potentially 'foreign blood' in your system.
My next pregnancy I will have to have the shot again, and I'll probably have no problem with it then, either.
Kinda strange, huh, how your body will go against something that you are trying to take care of so much.
I also had the shot with
I also had the shot with both my girls. Funny thing? My husband is also the same blood type and I really didn't need the shot - however my Doctor said to play it safe ( in case there was a mix up in the lab ) I should still get the shot. I didn't even research it as all my sisters had done the same thing and I didn't even think about it. My girls had to have a shot after they were born as well - just in case.
