Coughing child

Yesterday afternoon I received a call from the daycare stating that my son had been coughing all day long and didn't eat a thing all day and just was not himself. She said that she could see it in his eyes that he wasn't feeling good. Well when I arrived to school he was practically fine, talking loud as usual and skipping/hoping along. His eyes were fine, weren't droopy, no fever, etc as she had stated. But of course he had the cough that I was aware of, it sounds like a croupy hoarse cough. Excuse me for this comparison but it sounds like an old man cough, and it really looks like it hurts him to cough. Well anyway he had a sleepless night and I tried the cough medicine and humidifier. No luck, so his dad taking him to see the Doc. I hope that it is not the early stages of asthma as I did have that as a child.

My child had the exact same

My child had the exact same problem yours does and they diagnosed him with asthma. It is at its worse when he gets a cold. There is a distinct difference between a cough from a cold and one that never stops, and I mean never. We gave him cough syrup with codine in it, prescribed by the doctor, and it did nothing. He was exhausted from lack of sleep. We finally got a nebulizer and asthma medicine and when he gets in his coughing fits then we have to use it on him about four times a day. A humidifier, cough syrup, propping up pillows, none of it worked. Also, milk coats their throat, so do not give it to them when they are going through coughing periods. Good luck!

Yes, we tried all of the

Yes, we tried all of the above as well. He seems to be doing better today and occasionally will cough. So is your child limited to the things that he/she can do?? And by that I mean not running around too much, etc? I really cannot see limiting my child's activity because he is a really active young man. We shall see how he does this evening. Good luck with your lil one as well.

When my older son gets a

When my older son gets a cold he gets asthma. However, when he is not sick with a cold he has no asthma. It is the most odd thing. His doctor said it is fine. So, he prescribed an inhaler for those times when he catch a cold - we have it handy. Outside of that we dont use it at all. Check with your pediatrician.

My child has the same as

My child has the same as lisamommy. He does not have this endless cough unless he gets a cold. He has no issues with any activity. I had NO CLUE that in a child that an unending cough was asthma. I kept thinking that all the doctors were idiots. I always associated asthma with shortness of breath, certainly not coughing. If your child has this issue, please get the nebulizer. I swear it saves my child.

Just an update, several days

Just an update, several days after my son got sick his sister had the same thing. Fevers, cough and aches. Took her to the doctor and they say that it may be bronchitis for both but my daughter really had me scared the other morning cause she was wheezy. I hated feeling like that as a child and I knew the pain that she was going through. She was prescribed some liquid albuterol to see if that will clear her up and if not then go from there. Today she seems alot better, not coughing as much.
