As soon as we give birth, we start forgetting doctor's appointments, meetings at work, and where we left our cell phones. Sometimes, we even forget what we were going to say.
It took me so long to write this blog today because I forgot what I was going to write about. Seriously. It took me until after lunch to remember.
This morning on The Today Show, I watched a segment on “Momnesia,” the phenomena that causes women to forget things after they have children. The experts say moms are so focused on their little ones that we tend to forget other things.
Studies show that it's caused by an explosion of hormones that are unleashed on the brain during and after pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
My friend, Amy, has always claimed that she got more stupid with each child. She even has the IQ test results to prove it, with a few-point dip for each child. (She stopped after two.)
Coupled with the onslaught of hormones, the experts estimated that moms lose 700 hours of sleep in the first year of a baby's life, and we're stressed out with the responsibility and all that comes with raising kids.
No wonder we drive off with our coffee cups on the roof of the car.

I read somewhere one time
I read somewhere one time that you do lose memory power with each child. Guess this is now officially confirmed (I though it was a wise tail). This totally freaks me out especially since I have 2 and we are trying for a third! Some days I still think I'm in good shape (like today) but other days I get up at 11:00 pm to change over laundry that I put in when I got home from work so we'd have clean underwear to wear in the am! My biggest issue with memory loss is I constantly forget where I put things like my car keys, my cell phone, important papers, my kid's...just kidding but you get the point. Which reminds me, I better write a note to go pick up my daughter from day care this afternoon, she usually walks home!

I feel better just blaming
I feel better just blaming it on the fact that I used to have only one schedule to remember (or forget) now I have 6. Who isn't going to forget something now and then?? We just don't get credit for the million things we remember, meals, wash, work projects, birthdays, bills, what's the latest with _________, when books are due back to the library, etc. etc. etc.
My kids forget stuff with no explaination, why can't I?

I adopted two children while
I adopted two children while I was pregnant with the third and I had the memory loss thing big time. I started to make lists for everything and then would forget where I put my lists. It is frustrating because I had a great memory before kids. Now I am always looking for things and writing things down. Maybe some day the memory will get better.
I wouldn't survive without
I wouldn't survive without my to-do lists, and I've learned to write them all in my Daytimer or I'd lose those, too! Also, I keep a calendar hanging near the computer, so I can see the month at a glance, so I don't double book or forget anyone's birthday.

I set appointments on my
I set appointments on my cell phone with alarms to remind me. Sometimes I will almost be asleep at night and then sit bolt upright, grab my phone and enter another "to do" item.
sure, fine, whatever
What me? forget something?
What me? forget something? Ok, so I too fall into this list. I think some of it is so we don't remember everything about our labor and we will have more children. If we remembered everything, we all would probably only have one child! I look at is as having lots of windows (think computer) open and so my computer is slower :) Hey, it works for me, or maybe then again it doesn't. What was I saying.....

lol...... Isn't it the truth
lol......
Isn't it the truth though......
My husbands memory isn't so hot either...so I feel as if I have to be his brain too...aww...
He always tells me...I have a great memory.....if he only knew.
I put post it notes on my cell phone. So if I grab my phone there will be a note to remind me of whatever. That is a day to day solution though.....still working on the month to month solution.
I too am a member of this
I too am a member of this club! Like other posts, I have a monthly calendar right next to my desk and I put post-it's on my cell phone! Another thing I do, if my cell phone isn't handy, I staple a note around the strap of my purse! That way it's right there to remind me of something!
