Mother of the Bride

ChalkTalk's picture

Today is my oldest daughter's wedding day. We've been carefully planning every detail for well more than a year now. We have many last-minute things to take care of before the big event this afternoon.

Although my daughter has been living on her own for 5 years now, it still feels like I'm losing my baby with her getting married. But then again I am gaining a son. I have two daughters and my husband always wanted a son.

Jennifer has always been such a pride to us. She excelled in every aspect of school and was valedictorian from her high school and graduated summa (inappropriate term) laude from college. In her job, she continues to move up to more challenging positions. Her goal is still to get her doctorate degree and that will mean a move to Washington state.

I have so many emotions today as I wait for the events to unfold. I'm hoping today will be the magical day that we hoped for and that her future with her new husband will be full of love, good health and success.

Lori Baker is mom to two daughters, 21 and 23 years old. She is
editor for the Valley and State section's Education and Environment pages in the Arizona Republic.

Mazeltov to the couple

Mazeltov to the couple (nope, I'm Episcopalian, but that seems to say it best).

You know that love grows exponentially; the more people you have to love, the more love you have to share. I did find it somewhat humorous that (probably during the wedding today), Monster-In-Law aired on TV.

Just think. Smart little grandbabies on the way, and, you know what? You won't be thinking like an educator; you'll be too busy spoiling them.
