Niece is graduating from High School! I need ideas for graduation gifts.

My niece is graduating from high school this month and I can hardly believe it!!

I'm stumped on what to give her for graduation. My husband suggested money which is probably what we'll do.

She is a low maintenance casual kind of girl who doesn't wear much jewelry. She doesn't really need anything.

We thought about buying her books for her first semester in college but she already paid for them.

Any ideas would be appreciated...

Like High School before I

Lavender_Sea's picture

Like High School before I started college I had to get school supplies, and I wanted to get new clothes. Do you know where she will be going or rooming? Will she need a bike to get around with a nice lock? How about one of those rolling bags that she can put her supplies in? The reason I say the rolling bag is if she is taking a lot of classes and has to get to class in a hurry it is really a lot nicer on the back. What if you were to put stuff in it like gift cards to Starbucks, staples, or a clothing store. I had to also have a specific calculator for school that was about $150? Ask the parents if she already has one that she needs if she has signed up for the classes she should know which one she will need. In my day it was a TI-82. Just an idea.

Does she have a cell phone?

Does she have a cell phone? If not that might be a good gift. You can get a 'disposable' one and add minutes as needed.

If she DOES have one, maybe you could get her a card with enough minutes on it to call whenever she gets homesick.

Some sort of organizer thing

Some sort of organizer thing (Palms are nice, but it's still often easier just to have something to write in). Then paperclip gift cards for food and/or coffee to the month when her finals are for the first semester. If she doesn't snag them in advance, they'll be there when she has the least amount of time and will probably be running lowest on money.

Would about some sort of

Would about some sort of scrapbooking stuff so she can scrapbook all her high shcool stuff or be ready to scrapbook all of ther college memories.

I was just thinking what I would have wanted at that age and I remember how grateful I was for the money! It gave a great head start for that transition time.

Money! I have a high school senior and I'm telling family the same thing. It is so hard to buy things for them but what they can always use is money! (for gas, etc!)

I remember receiving a nice Cross pen personalized with my last night and year I graduated. Very personal and much appreciated. Money would be good at that age, but it's so unpersonable. Try looking at thingsremembered.com for ideas as well.

There is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one!

There's a store called

There's a store called "Things Remembered" at Chandler Mall. They have sterling silver jewelry boxes, trinket boxes, etc. You might get her one (engraved) and put some money in it.

Does she have a car? My neice does and personally, I was thinking about buying her a gas gift card. Gas is so gosh darn expensive nowadays that it's a little reprieve from the grown up world she is getting ready to join. :-)
