Who does your child(ren) look like?

Yesterday my hubby, and I, and all the kids went up to Jerome for the day with a couple of friends and their kids. On our way to the SUV, we got soaked, I mean SOAKED, from the monsoon up there around 2:30 pm. Luckily we had a yummy lunch at the Mile High before the downpour. The lines got very long immediately in every restaurant there was up there after the dollar sized rain started splattering all over the place. It was wild. I had not seen this classic type of monsoon storm in years here in Phoenix. Man, I wish we get it someday!

Anyway, while at Mile High, my stepdaughter took a picture of me and Sky laying on my lap, drinking her formula. Upon arriving home, I uploaded the pictures and I couldn't help but stared at that picture for some time. For years, I never really looked like anyone in the family. I was always teased that I was the 'Postman's daughter'....and now, I am noticing that the older I get, I look more and more like my dad - almost identical. It sends chills down in my spine. Kelly looks like me...she is my identical when I was younger. And Sky - we can't figure her out! She definitely has my dad's and grandmother's eyes and her dad's and his mom's high cheekbones.

Who do you look like and who does your kid(s) look like?

I look mostly like my father. However, I do favor one of my Aunts on my mother side.So we say were sisters...
My son looks like his father....my husband is Itailian...my son got the Itailian nose...which I adore ! :)
It has only been this year that I have heard a few people say, oh your son looks like you....I am glad to hear it....I was starting to wonder!

azmommyof4's picture

I want to go to Jerome. We go to Sedona often because I love it up there but never to Jerome. It rained in Prescott on the 4th when we were there and it was so nice.

Anyhow, I literally look like both of my parents. I have all of their strongest characteristics. When I was little I was told I was found on the doorstep. I was very fair, my hair was thin and curly and light brown. But as I have gotten older, my skin tone changed my hair turned black and I act just like my mother. My daughters are all different but I think they resemble me. The two closest in age are like night and day, on is fair and one is a bit darker, one has long brown curly, curly hair and the other has short black hair. Anissa looks just like me when I was little and I think Angelise looks just like one of my sisters. My youngest and oldest looked the same as babies and Aliya the baby looks alot like my mom that it is eerie. Even my mom will look at her and say she looks just like me. I take it as a compliment when told my kids look like me as I am sure we all do.

NONE of my kids look like

MiriamVS's picture

NONE of my kids look like me! Which I suppose is lucky for them because hubby is very handsome and I'd rather they get their looks from him and their brains from me any way!

Of all of them, my daughter looks least like me. I'm brunette, brown-eyed, heavy and klutzy. She has auburn hair and emerald green eyes, is tall but very thin and super-athletic. I often joke with her that somewhere in the vicinity of Fairfax Hospital (where she was born) there's a supermodel wondering "how did I end up with a chubby dark haired girl?" because the only explanation I have is she was switched at birth! But of course I'm not giving her back now.

As for me, I look just like my mom and her mom. That's why it's even more puzzling to me how my daughter looks nothing like any of us gals!

I don't think I look

flyerg's picture

I don't think I look anything like either my mom or dad - so the postman idea has gone through my brain. But I am a dead ringer with my sisters - we all look alike.

I told my husband before our kids were born that they would most likely look like my side of the family. I am the youngest and have the benefit of seeing all of my sisters kids. They all have looked like our side. I guess we had some pretty strong genes.

sure, fine, whatever

My kids strongly take after

LongWayHome's picture

My kids strongly take after me - fair skin, blue eyes, tall and skinny, and very similar facial features. My DH is an olive-skinned Italian, and my kids look nothing like him. The only exception is my DH has blue eyes as well - but my kids eyes are my blue-grey shade, not my DH's blue-green shade.

I'm anxious to see how their faces change as they mature.

I would say that at least

Katy1999's picture

I would say that at least once a week when the three of us are out and about, someone comments to us that our son is the spitting image of his dad! He looks nothing like me, he is my husband all over again right down to the facial expressions....his eyes are a little lighter, hazel where my husband's are dark brown....and his hair is lighter too(my husband's hair is black) but my husband says his was the same color when he was small. The only thing he got from me is muscular legs - we joke that Dad has chicken legs. I think those actually came from my father, he was a natural athlete who played professional football for a short time(waaaay back in the 60's).
I look more and more like my mom every day....when I was little I looked like my dad, with his blue eyes and light brown hair....but the older I get I look more like her. That's not a bad thing, because she was a real beauty back in the day! She has always been slim, and I have, too whereas everyone on my dad's side of the family is prone to obesity....I have two half sisters from his first marriage who are morbidly obese. I spoke to his first wife not too long ago and she said her girls are "as wide as they are tall"..........I thank God every day I didn't inherit that!!!
The one thing I used to wish I had inherited from my mom but didn't was her chest size...despite being thin she is stacked!

My eldest son looks so much

perpetual_smile's picture

My eldest son looks so much like his dad that people I barely know have commented that they think they saw Troy's dad becasue they saw this guy that looked exactly like him, walked exactly like him, talked exactly like him, same mannerisms and facial expressions. When I ask where they saw this guy it always turns out to be Troy's dad. They do look so alike you would think they were twins born a couple of decades apart!

My second child, Cameron, is a pretty good mix of his dad and I.

My third child, Alannah, looks not a lot like me now but the very image of me at her age. I hope that doesnt mean she will look like me at this age! lol

My fourth child, Isabella, looks nothing like her dad or I. Her dad had black curly hair, brown eyes, olive skin, naturally muscular and 6 foot tall. I have brown hair, brown eyes, fine features and pale skin. Isabella has stunning blue eyes, strawberry blond hair and is very petite. My dad and her dad's mom both have blue eyes, my brother had strawberry blond hair as a child but its light brown as an adult, her skin tone is somewhere in the middle of her dad and I, and her tiny build I dont really know where that came from but my grandma was petite. The women on my husbands side are pretty tall broad shoulder and heavy, except his sister who is short but not petite in her features.

I have my dads features and my moms colouring, my brother has my moms features and my dads colouring.

Arent genetics wonderfully amazing!

When my kids were babies,

DesertMom's picture

When my kids were babies, and I was out anywhere (grocery store, mall, playground, etc.), it seemed like there was always someone who came up to me and asked if my son or daughter was adopted. This would drive me crazy. One, it's so incredibly rude, and what does it matter anyway whether your kids are adopted. And, two, I think they DO have some of me in them even though their dad is Korean and I'm fair-skinned/blonde/blue-eyed. (I can't help it that I don't have the dominant genes!)

The interesting thing is that of our three kids, one is the spitting image of her dad, one looks just like me and the other is more of a mix. And yet they seem to change all the time as they grow older and their facial features become more developed.

Now personalities are another thing.... I often wonder how much is inherent and how much is learned.....

LOL...oh yeah, I'm Miss recessive too...auburn hair, dark blue eyes, pale, left handed...my boys got all of their daddy's features. I AM curious to see my grandkids, though!

My guys are the spitting

Optimist's picture

My guys are the spitting image of my husband - almost. There's a hint of me in them. One son has a cleft chin, that comes from my mother's family. The other has the high check bones from me. It's amazing that every corner of them can be easily identified - right down to the swirl in their hair growth pattern or the way their toe nails grow! My boys look VERY much like one another. Honestly, I've been thinking a lot of this lately, as I consider adoption. This is the part that seems to foreign to me...looking at "my" child and not knowing where that smirk comes from. Intellectually, it's stupid, I realize. It's an emotional leap, I guess.

Funny story.....when my

Rybearsmom's picture

Funny story.....when my OB/GYN delivered my son he patted my hubby on the back and said, "Well, Hank, there is no denying the paternity on this one....he looks just like you." My son is the spitting image of his father. My hubby calls him his "Mini me". He has the same eye color, the same hair color, the same chubby fingers. We have a picture of my hubby when he was about 14 months. He was sleeping on his tummy with his rear end sticking up in the air. My son sleeps the exact same way. It's so cute. My father picks on me when I hold my son. He says it looks like I'm holding a mini version of my hubby on my lap. LOL

You know - we get similar

Katy1999's picture

You know - we get similar comments from strangers......they say "Well, there is no question who his father is".......and I find that rather annoying.....as if there would be a question about paternity if he didn't look like a carbon copy of his dad!
When my son was a few months old a few people also joked "are you sure you are the mother...he looks nothing like you and you are so thin".........yep, I'm fairly sure I'm the mom.....I vaguely remember something about a 14 hour labor.....lol

There is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one!

I get that I look just look

jackie_is_a_mom's picture

I get that I look just look like mom, and then I also get my dad.

My daughter has my fair skin and eyes. My dad showed a video of me at 6 months and everyone says she looks like me. She got her grandpas eyes though, I have brown eyes and so does my boyfriend and she has blue eyes. Very light colored hair as I did when I was younger. She gets that she looks like me and my boyfriend. She also looks like brother when he was a baby.

I'm actually a blend of both

niffer71's picture

I'm actually a blend of both of my parents; people who know my Dad better say I look like him. People who know my Mom better say I look like her. My eyes are the same color as my Dad's, the same shape as my Mom's. My complexion and hair are that of my Mom. My nose, though different than my Dad's, comes from my Dad's side of the family. The older I get, the more I think I look more like my Dad's youngest sister!

My in-laws think my son looks just like my husband, but honestly, I don't see it (and neither does anyone else in my family). I've even seen pics of my husband at my son's age, and don't see it. He has extremely blonde hair (which my husband and I both had at his age; we're now both dark blonde). He has my nose, my mouth, and my husband just pointed out the other day, my eyebrows. He has my Mom's eyes (blue-green). He favors my family a lot, so not sure how anyone can think he looks like his daddy!

Lavender_Sea's picture

I look like my dad. I have my mom's smile, and that's about it. Everything else is the spitting image of my father, except a shorter version. I think my daughter has my eyes, my hair color, and that's about it. She tans like a dream. I am very fair complected with reddish hair. My father is a real redhead. My daughter is super tall so I'm hoping she is going to be better off than I was in the height department. My daughter is built like me, but everything else is her father.

i look like whoever i am

Mumx2's picture

i look like whoever i am standing next to... Yeah its weird but i always get "WOW you look just like.... (Whoever i am with).... But my mom tells me i look just like her mom and she hates that... But thats okay, because i like to think that i look like me...

My son he looks identical to my husband, the only difference is the shape of his eyes... he has my eye shape, but everything else from toes to cow lick in the back of his head is identical to his dad...

I had a 3-D ultrasound done a couple weeks ago for our next son, because i wanted to see if he would look anything like me or my family and the verdict is he looks just like his brother!!! so with that in mide he looks just like his Dad... go figure i lost!!! LOL!!!

Our children are really a

JuneSlager's picture

Our children are really a good mixture of the two of us. My daughter and youngest son both have their dad's coloring, they can actually tan and have dark hair and brown eyes, but they also have features from my side of the family such as my daughter's nose and lips.
Our middle son got the fair skin and blond hair along with my blue eyes, but he like his brother has his dad's nose and lips. It is amazing how at different times in their lives they seem to look more like one of us than the other.
I found recently that my looks are beginning to change enough that I finally see a lot of my dad's side of the family in me although when I was younger people thought I looked like my mother.
I guess it is nice to be able to see both sides in all of us.

Doe anyone see one child more like you in relation to personality than another?

I know our middle son tends to be the most like me in how he reacts to things and thinks about the world. It must be the blue eyes.

I'm lucky 3 of my kids have my husbands blood type, so at least he can point to that as an indication he was involved. The fourth child has her own look, not as much like me, but like my side of the family.

Genetics are so cool!
