So...did anyone get to catch either Today Show or Dateline yesterday? Well, they did this very interesting piece on funds that are not claimed. It was incredibly interesting...and anyone can get the money that belongs to them-whether it was through deceased relatives, or even stocks or accounts long forgotten about. While watching Dateline last night, Tiki Barber went to two different families-and they got some AMAZING surprises. One familie's deceased father had some stocks, the company couldn't find the family so the money was turned over to the state. The family received a check for $575K!!! And another older couple had some stocks they long forgot about...turns out the stock was worth a total of about $825K!!! Absolutely insane!
I checked out our family, and nothing I could find, but you never know-you may be owed some money.
The link below has all the info and some sites you can check out for free to see if you have money owed to you.

If for whatever reason that link doesn't work, you can also go to www.missingmoney.com plug in your name and see if you have any money.
Good luck!!!

I did see the show with my
I did see the show with my husband...and we loved the cute old couple at the end of the show.
I have heard of these unclaimed accounts before, but honestly, it's quite unusual to find something - so people shouldn't get there hopes up.
The most likely scenario to get something is someone who lives in one state, has a checking account that they left open with a small balance, so that any outstanding checks can still clear, but then they forget to call six months later and close the account.
Most often, when someone dies, the children/heirs will find bank statements, etc. that indicate what is there to be claimed. It is my understanding that it is rare for there to be surprise money that no one knew about.
Now the unclaimed safety deposit boxes can be another thing....sometimes people really don't know that "Aunt So-and-so had a box..."

I did look a few years back
I did look a few years back and got lucky and got a couple hundred from an old deposit I never got back from a rental in my college days. It was a nice surprise.
THANK YOU pvmom, your post
THANK YOU pvmom, your post was a blessing. My mother was just laid off Monday, (wrongfully terminated if you ask me) and I entered her name and she has two unclaimed amounts worth almost $2,000.00 so...Thank you again for posting the website. The first one was from an insurance company, another, we're not sure yet but we're looking into it.
She is surprised to say the least to get this good news!
That's great news! Good
That's great news! Good timing for sure
Wow...that is great news!!!
Wow...that is great news!!! I am so glad that it was able to bless someone else.
Thanks for sharing.
I think we all understand it's pretty far out there to be receiving back half a mil or more...but even the little stuff counts.
This is very interesting.
This is very interesting. Nothing came up under my name but I entered my fiancee's name, it says the amount is unknown and who it is reported from is undisclosed. When he gets home will see. It's probably an old security deposit of some sort, nothing major, but still kinda cool.

My honey had found money
My honey had found money from HUD insurance when he sold his house. He already recieved the money from that, it was like $1000.00. The site we had was only for Arizona. I searched my parent's name in California and they have hundres of dollars from Allstate in Carson lol. I emailed my dad so he could get his money. Thanks!

we saw this last night - loved the old couple at the end.
looks neat - but it is so unusual for people to actually find money like this.
however, I have heard that the safety deposit boxes are sometimes left unclaimed when family is out of town and they just don't know that "grandma had a box."
