The Magic is gone

lovemy4's picture

We lost our cool 15 year old cat, Magic yesterday. He went naturally, it seems simply from old age, he stopped eating a few days ago, and was just slow moving and old actings, until he was too weak to move and died a few hours later.

We were so lucky that it happened quickly and without any obvious signs of pain or illness (he got a clear bill of health from the vet last Monday!)

We ultimately didn't have to make the decision (and I am very thankful for that) but do you think it more humane to put an animal to sleep or should only nature decide?

I'm very sorry your cat died

I'm very sorry your cat died :( I have 3 pets of my own, 2 cats and 1 dog. I did lose 4 cats when i was younger and its hard.

As to answer your question, I'd only put a pet to sleep if it was a very last resort so that it was longer suffering in any pain. That is of course, there was nothing to be done to heal the animal at all.

So sorry to hear your cat

So sorry to hear your cat passed away. Pets are definitely part of the family and we all miss them when they are deceased. I myself have not gotten a new puppy since my dog passed away over 15 years ago. It just hasn't felt right, maybe one day we will when my kids get older. As for putting a pet to sleep - that is such a hard call. I guess it all depends on the situation (as to what is occurring with the pet.) Right now I'd say I wouldn't put my pet to sleep, however if I was in that scenario and it was a decision I had to make by tomorrow then I might answer differently pending the scenario.

Again, sending you are deepest sympathy.
