I'm only 30 and my hair is thinning!

izzysmom's picture

I should have expected it because my mother had very thin hair, and sometimes wore wigs. But I blocked that out of my mind. Even when my husband mentions it... It just hurts my feelings. Well, It's come to the point where I can no longer camouflage it or ignore it. I need help.

Have you tried Hair

Have you tried Hair Restoration? They've got such a wide variety of new technology. It's not obtrusive and depending on who you visit- they should treat the entire ordeal very delicately. Locally, we have National Hair Centers. They treated a girlfriend of mine who was losing hair due to her diet. She did their laser treatments a couple of times a week for 20 minutes a session. She would just run in before or after the gym. Normal routine.
It's not just restoring your hair, it's restoring your confidence. Look them up- National Hair Centers or nationalhair.com. They have several different options... But everything is going to be ok. I wouldn't fret. You'll find a solution that suits you!

Hi there- I'm 31 and my hair

Hi there-

I'm 31 and my hair is falling out like crazy. I've heard that sometimes your hair falls out after you give birth, but my baby is six months old so I'm not sure if that's the reason!

There are a lot of products (over-the-counter) that are supposed to help with thinning hair. You might want to try a product called Nioxin - their website is www.nioxin.com, and they carry it at Ulta, Trade Secret, and other salons. My sister actually used it and it seemed to work pretty well. I might pick some up myself - I'll repost if it seems to work!!

Good luck!

Please go get a thyroid test

abcdefghijk123's picture

Please go get a thyroid test right away. I started noticing my hair thinning several months after giving birth, and at first thought I was just losing that extra hair that you get when pregnant. But then it started to become really thin; I even caught my husband looking at me funny once and he admitted that he was looking at my thinning hair. I finally decided to go to the doctor--because of my vanity--and discovered that I had hypothyroidism, and that hair loss is just one symptom. (Of course they ask if you have been tired lately--one of the main symptoms--but who isn't with a new baby.) Once I got on the proper meds, my hair started growing back. And some of my other symptoms--which I hadn't realized were symptoms--like forgetfulness--went away as well. Hypothyroidism can be caused by pregnancy. Sometimes it will go away; but if you still have it after a year, they say that you will probably have it for life. I strongly suggest that anyone who has unexplained--or more than expected--hair loss to go get a thyroid test.

Yes, please get a thyroid

Yes, please get a thyroid test. If you exhibit a lot of the classic symptoms of hypothyroidism and your doctor tells you you're "fine", please seek a second opinion. You may be borderline; some doctors will treat borderline and other are dismissive of borderline symptoms. Sometimes vanity can be a good thing; hair loss is what finally got me to seek the thyroid treatment I needed. Good luck!

I am not a doctor. So you should speak with your doctor regarding this and have your thyroid checked as well. There are lots of things that can cause hair to thin.

Hopefully your doctor kind find the cause and then you can explore your options.

Good luck!

I was going to say Nioxin

I was going to say Nioxin and talk to your dr too.. Today there are so many things out there that I think you will not have to worry for long. Back in your moms day there wasn't much available. Today we have so much available for stuff like this...

I agree with the moms who suggest going to the doctor. I wouldn't go out trying to "restore" your hair since that would just be treating the symptom. There must be an underlying reason for it. I'd ask your doctor for a really comprehensive blood test, showing all of your hormones levels, not just your thyroid. This really could be hormonal issue, which is fairly common, and very easy to treat.

Careful with those hair

Happy2BMommy's picture

Careful with those hair products too. I've heard that once you start using them to add hair, that if you ever stop, it all falls out...worse than before. As in, you commit yourself to never quitting!

Is that true?

Treatment might take a little while.

In the meantime, take an extra $20 and get a little better cut that makes you feel better.

Depending on who has a comment, you are entirely free to invite him/her to jump off a cliff, shave his/her head in solidarity, or make him/her agree to hang with you in public.

Rogain and Propecia DO work.

Rogain and Propecia DO work. They don't help regrow lost hair, but they will help prevent further loss. Good luck!
