Hi my name is Krista Morris. My daughter just got diagnoised with
High Function Autism back in April. She was evaluated by the Melmed Center.
My husband and I were very relieved about the diagnoises. At least something was there and it wasn't our imagination.
Sharon invited me to this group. I know Sharon because we go to the same Church. We are new to this group and this whole autism thing. My husband and I have done alot of research.
Right now our daughter is getting OT, PT, SP, Music therapy, Hab, Respite. The OT has us doing a program called Therapeutic Listening. With doing this program we have noticed a huge difference in our daughter. Plus we are also doing a vitamin called Yummi Gummi Child Bright. These are all natural and have made a huge difference in her too. Also along with all this we are doing a Sensory Diet under the care of the OT. Plus our daughter is on a diary free diet because she is lactose intolerant. We were doing that way before we even thought she had autism.
Along with the foods we are watching her sugar in take , and red dyes and yellow dyes in take. Because when she gets too much sugar that is what triggers her melt downs.
I am here to get support and know that I am on the right track. My husband and I know that we can't cure our daughter, we just want to help her to be able to succeed with life and be able to acknowledge what sets her off.
Thanks for letting me introduce myself
Krista

Welcome, Krista! I imagine
Welcome, Krista!
I imagine you're already familiar with SARRC, the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center but here's the website just in case: http://www.autismcenter.org/. I just finished up a leadership institute with someone who works there so I thought I'd mention it.
And please keep us posted on your daughter's progress.
Patricia is a discussion leader for arizonamoms.com. She and her husband live in Phoenix and are raising a 4-year-old son they adopted as an infant.
Welcome Krista. Well done
Welcome Krista. Well done on getting informed about your child's issues, you will always be your daughter's strongest advocate. I have heard how strict diets really help with autistic symptoms and (if you haven't already) check out Jenny McCarthy's book because I think she is dealing with similar issues as you guys and has had wonderful successes with her son's diet.
I have one bit of advice to you and that is to follow your gut. Doctors are wonderful, educated, and generally want whats best for your child. Just don't be afraid to question things. My son has a bleeding disorder and we have followed his doctor's advice on many things but we have also questioned certain things and taken alternative routes - in hindsight, we were usually glad we did.
Best wishes to you and your family.
Hi Krista, welcome. I'm sure
Hi Krista, welcome.
I'm sure you will find a lot of friends and support here. I'm tentatively (haven't finished my application yet) planning to be at the Walk Now for Autism event on Nov 2 with an arizonamoms.com booth. That's a SARRC event. We have one young child in our family with autism. The mother (my husband's cousin) started the first school in Yavapai county for autistic children last year. It's good to see these kids finally getting the treatment and attention they need. Good luck to you and we are happy to have you here.
Susan is mom to Alexander, Isabel, David and stepmom to Eric. Make sure your email address is current, we'll be giving out great prizes DAILY in September after our site makeover! Don't miss out!
Welcome to the group! I'm
Welcome to the group!
I'm sure you'll find information, support and most of all friendship here.
My son was diagnosed with ADEM 2 years ago, and I know what you mean about how important it is to have a diagnosis because the 'not knowing' is harder than anything. He's doing well now but will have to go for routine MRI's and may develop a variety of related brain stem problems as he ages. But for now, just having the info --- and the support of other parents! --- helps a lot.
Keep posting!
New to AZ --- and missing autumn leaves and the smell of apple orchards!
Welcome and thanks for
Welcome and thanks for sharing your story.
A long lifetime ago I cared for children with Autism and I remember how hectic their schedules were with all the therapy.
Please do continue to share - I know there are plenty of other moms out there with your story.
Wishing you the best of luck in the mean time!
Welcome Krista! I hope you
Welcome Krista! I hope you will find that this site is sometimes helpful, sometimes controversial, sometimes amusing, but always supportive and caring. We look forward to hearing more about your daughter and her progress!
