Shampoo fiasco

time-starved_goddess_mom's picture

Today was supposed to be a calm morning. I was up by 4:30 a.m. - no I don't normally do this, but I couldn't stay asleep.

By the time Julia woke up, I logged in two hours of email and other work. Things were going especially great because she - without prompting - went to take her bath. When she came to the kitchen, I glanced at her. I was proud. She washed her hair this time (half the time she forgets). But I should have inspected the work right away

She asked for oatmeal, another proud moment. I've been urging the kids to eat something other than waffles or sugary cereal. Scrambled eggs are a given now on test days. But I don't recall a test today.

Her brother finally woke up and I really thought we'd walk to school. Surely we'd be ready by 8 a.m. Soon, 8 became 8:15. Still better than normal - I'm happy to be on my way at 8:20. By car, we would make the first school bell. Very cool. (I have to say every time I hear the principal on the school speaker saying something like, "Kids, if you wake up 5 minutes earlier, you could make it to school on time" that she's speaking directly to me. And I hate it because most times we are up early.)

So as we walk out the door, I tell Julia she could have done a better job combing her hair. That's when I notice she's got a glob of shampoo on top of her head. Surely I could rinse it off in a second. NO!

I practically had to dunk her head back in the tub. Tick tock, tick tock. It's 8:23 by the time the shampoo is completely off. We repeated the rinse three times because I kept finding more shampoo. Her top is soaked.

"Go change!" My voice is panicked, and she scurries.

We're in the car at 8:26 - Alex forgets his permission slip. I grab it and go.

We arrived at school at 8:29 - I thank God for no long line. (The other day my car idled for 7 minutes waiting to get into the drop off lane and I wished that I parked at the park and walked - it would have been faster.)

The kids ran out the door; Julia was yelling "hurry, hurry."

I swear I could see the school counselor shake her head. So I rolled down my window and told her our story. I'm not sure she totally believed me. I then apologize for sending Julia to school with super wet hair.

I'm really glad spring break is around the corner.

I often find myself in that same situation. There are days that I get up super early and I think hey I am going to be on time. Well there is always something that happens, either the kids forget their juice on the table or one side of their shoe. And if not there is always that one big semi truck that happens to be going 30 mph down a 65 mph zone. Oh that really ticks me off...but it's all a part of life. Hope that your day gets better!!

Yvette, your day can only

Yvette, your day can only get better!!! I, too, have had those days. In fact, I had one yesterday! My 15 year old needed his tax credit donation in for track yet I couldn't find the paper I needed to write it out on. So I got on my computer, which runs REALLY slowly these days and printed the form out. 10 minutes later and two pages of solid red ink, I had my form. Then my 7 year old needed a shower badly...in the shower he went. Then I realized that I never signed my kids up for summer school so I get back on the computer and try to take care of that quickly but I couldn't get on the website. I also realized that my 7 year old had a school trip coming up but I didn't know when so I searched for that info. And, the same kid has field day on friday but I lost the paper for that event so I got back online to find out what time that was and wondered how I was going to be at field day for the 7 year old and the pony rides for my 4 year at the same time, which I also had to search for.

I thought to myself, "How can one person be so disorganized?" Then I realized that in my recent attempts to keep this house clutter free, I've been throwing all these papers away!!! Some days I feel like the universe is conspiring against me and then I read your post, Yvette, and realize that it's not just me...the universe is conspiring against all of us!!! We moms truly need each other! : )

I'm glad it's not just me.

I'm glad it's not just me. :) And yes, we do need each other! I'm blogging about spring break next. I can only say that if it weren't for my friend, another mom, I don't know how I'd survive next Monday.

I am not sure how that works out either...the day you are ahead...you are really behind..and the day we are behind I am really ahead.Crazy I tell you!
I had a shampoo situation a few days ago. First I washed my hair with face cleaner......then I fixed that.....then when I got out of the shower I forgot to add in my conditioner....it was a really BAD hair day!
