Anti Abortion License Plates???

phoenixgrlkim1's picture

So I see this am that they are finally allowing the "pro-life" plates and my thought on this is immediately, "has the court lost thier minds?" For the record, I am pro-choice (I personally am pro-life but I believe in women being allowed to choose what they would like to do) but I am certainly not going to purchase a license plate that advertises my personal feelings and tries to belittle and offend others who don't feel the same. In my eyes, the courts are crossing a very fine line. I'm probably being totally defensive about this, but I'm sorry I just don't feel it's appropriate for this to be advertised so openly. My real concern is for the possibility of hate crimes that could come from this kind of publication.

I agree with you. I am also

I agree with you. I am also Pro-Life personally - and agree that everyone should have the right to choose for themselves - THEY are the ones who have to live with that choice - not me. I always just hope they are educated, either way, in their decision!

However, it can be argued that even a simple act of the type of clothing you purchase, vehicle you drive, or political bumper sticker you have on that car can also offend someone who has a different view point of you.

I agree with you

I agree with you phx...
Where did you read this? My question is where is this extra money going?? Umm, not to education...!

I watched it on the news

I watched it on the news then I read a little more about it in Montini's blog on azcentral. Of course his is just an opinion (but so is mine) and I agree with him. Oh and regarding your education comment, that also makes me think of something I read about Janet Napolitano saying that abstinence education isn't worth the money. I'm really disturbed by that attitude also but a part of me hopes that the parents are at least doing their share of education and guidance in that area. Yikes!

Thanks for the info. I will check it out! I didn't see the piece on Janet. However my friend did and we were talking about it. My friend said that Janet did it for two reason's one most other states said... nay...and because if we are going to spend money she wants it on sex education, again I didn't watch or read this. And as far as your last comment...keep the hope! I too do share your hope!

I think Napolitano's view

I think Napolitano's view is for the money we can do better than abstinence only ed. and give our kids a fuller, more true picture. She definately supports sex ed. that stresses abstinance but she wants our kids to know the facts. Some current courses are truly abstinance only - so no birth control at all is discussed.

Arizona is second in teen pregnancy, we need to talk about birth control and if we can't using Fed. funds, let's get rid of the funds and do it the way we need to.

I thought the article was

I thought the article was talking about a personalized plate, not a specialized plate (such as organ donor or child abuse plates). But I may be mistaken - I have been wrong before (but I think it was only once) :-)
