Girl for President

Kindahotmom's picture

I'm glad to see Sen. Hillary Clinton doing well again in the campaign, not only because I'm a fan but also because I'd like to see a woman in the White House.

For generations, we've been telling our girls that they could grow up to be anything they can imagine, including President of the United States. But that hasn't really been true. A man has always held the nation’s top job.

If Clinton is elected, or at least is the Democratic nominee, there will be truth to what we’ve been telling little girls.

My daughter couldn't believe

My daughter couldn't believe a "girl" was running when I told her. Even though she's talked about being a rock star and president in the same breath, somehow she still thought it was impossible to be the president. The rock star part would be much easier, she would say. But - even though she doesn't really know anything about Hillary's politics - now she thinks it's pretty cool that a "girl" has a shot at being president. Her dream is somehow she WILL pull a sort of Ronald Reagan, but instead of acting on her resume, it'll be rock band. I love it !

I agree we need a women running the white house for a change. Only Hillary could pull it off.

I agree. I think both boys

I agree. I think both boys and girls will benefit from a strong leader who is a woman. Women and men tend to solve problems differently, and women tend to approach conflict differently. Neither way is always better.

I also love that she's a Mom. The Clinton family is a great example of how two people can have imperfect childhoods, imperfect relatives, and even an imperfect marriage -- and then not only be the ultimate "power couple" in the free world, but also raise a kid like Chelsea.

Chelsea's a great example to girls, too. The poor kid had to go through her "ugly duckling" stage on national TV, but look where she is now. She managed to get through high school and college and become a young adult and still be totally boring to the gossip mongers. You know that, if there had ever been any dirt on her (underaged drinking, drugs, ya-da, ya-da), it would have been common knowledge. She even elected to go to school on National Take Your Daughter to Work day, because, as she said, "I live where my Mom works. I already know all about it."

I think it will be even cooler when, not only do girls know that they could become president, but children are convinced that their Moms could be, too.

It actually is surprising to

It actually is surprising to me the US hasn't has a serious female contender before now. Even Pakistan had a woman president before we had a serious female candidate.

sure, fine, whatever

Yeah girl power. After

Yeah girl power. After Hillary was here in January I thought that was history in the making. Too bad we didn't go to the rally.
